From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver comes a captivating, thrilling novel of fear, friendship, courage, and hope that will leave readers gasping for air. Now a television series on Prime Video, starring Olivia Welch, Mike Faist, Jessica Sula, Enrique Murciano, Camron Jones, and Ray Nicholson! Panic began as so many things do in Carp, a poor town of twelve thousand people in the middle of nowhere- because it was summer, and there was nothing else to do. Heather never thought she would compete. She'd never thought of herself as fearless, the kind of person who would fight to stand out. But when she finds something, and someone, to fight for, she will discover that she is braver than she ever thought. Dodge has never been afraid of panic. His secret will fuel him, and get him all the way through the game, he's sure of it. But what he doesn't know is that he's not the only one with a secret. Everyone has something to play for. For Heather and Dodge, the game will bring new alliances, unexpected revelations, and the possibility of first love for each of them - and the knowledge that sometimes the very things we fear are those we need the most.

suspenseful, adventurous, and exciting

This book has been floating around since forever. And I'm honestly quite sad I just got into it. It's just there has been a lot of suspense and mystery books that came out, and I just haven't come to read this yet. I definitely understand the hype that people gave to this book back then. It has that sense of 'what will happen next?', and who will betray who? It's honestly pretty great. I really appreciate that this was in dual perspective. I love that one person knows one thing, while the other is still trying to figure it out. It's just so interesting! And I think two perspectives was just perfect. We have Dodge, who is an outcast and is not even in the game for the money; and we have Heather, who is loved by friends, but is struggling with family. We also have these minor characters that you're not even sure what their next moves will be. The book does feel like it's leaving holes though. I wish the book was written more tightly because I still have some questions about all of it. The audiobook is great, and I really like the narrator, but I do wish they have a different narrator for Dodge's side of the story. Though it was written in a third person perspective, there just came a point where I wasn't sure if it was Heather's or Dodge's chapter being read. This was such an amazing book. It was suspenseful, adventurous, and exciting. I really do like so many things about it. And in all honesty, I do wish there was more.
