Jane Austen's final novel once again takes a clear-eyed, witty look at love, social pretensions, and emotional confusion. Eight years ago, Anne Elliot was happily engaged to Frederick Wentworth until her friend, Lady Russell, persuaded her that Frederick was unworthy. Now, Frederick has returned, a wealthy captain in the navy, while Anne's family verges on bankruptcy.

Persuasion in the tub!

This book was exactly what I was looking for, and I highly recommend it! Not only is it classic Jane Austen, and satisfied in all the Austeny ways, but the reason I’m reviewing this book is because of the cover. This cover is not hard but not paper. It is an adorable, pink, gold and floral cover with a famous Persuasion quote on the back, but the material of the cover makes it perfect to read in the bathtub! Which of course is really the proper way to read Austen material: cuppa tea, sunk in a bubble bath, and not worried about your book cover getting wet and spotted. If you’re a tub reader, go for this book. It won’t disappoint.

LOVED!!

Ok lets get real. If you aren’t used to reading the “classics” or familiar with the writing style before the year 1920 ish, you will probably find this book boring and confusing. BUT, If you are willing to transport yourself back to 1817 and have some patience, I have every confidence you will enjoy this book. I cannot praise this book enough. I will go down fighting that Persuasion is better than Pride and Prejudice. Every. Dang. Day. WHAT TO EXPECT: -Tears -Heartache -Funny characters (some I could have done without but it shows the accuracy of the time period so I let it go) -Smart, relatable, and lovable female MC -The first truly successful “second chance romance” that authors still try to imitate. -Well crafted characters and plot. -relatively quick read at only 235 pages or 8 hour listen on Audible. I could go on all day so I’ll let a select few of my favorite quotes convince you, and if that doesn’t work, well, happy reading!... “My idea of good company…. Is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation.” “It was agitation, pain, pleasure, a something between delight and misery.” “A man does not recover from such a devotion of the heart to such a woman!—He ought not—he does not.” “She went into her room, and grew steadfast and fearless…” “Give him a book and he will read all day long.” “When the pain is over, the remembrance of it often becomes a pleasure.” “ There could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison” "She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older." “Men have had every advantage of us in telling their own story. Education has been theirs in so much higher a degree; the pen has been in their hands. I will not allow books to prove any thing.” “…while the woman you love lives, and lives for you. All the privilege I claim for my own sex …is that of loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone.” I Listened to 80% of the book and read the remaining 20%. I would recommend both options. The narration by Greta Scacchi was amazing and the Barnes and Noble physical copy was also a great choice. With this copy of Persuasion, the pages are thicker than most, Its stunning and the cover material gives the comfort of a paperback but more of the durability of a hardcover. Boring

I love Jane Austen but this is the worse one I have ever read. No wonder it was her last one!

It’s a beautiful book

I find this to be a lovely book. However I had planned to use its cover photographically and Barnes a noble sticker on cover made that very difficult. When removed it pulled off some of the lettering and left a sticky spot that could not be removed.
