Chain broke immediately

This is actually a beautiful necklace. I gave this to my 6 year granddaughter for her birthday. Her mother put in on her and she was standing there not touching the necklace and it broke just minutes after getting it on. I am torn right now. The charm is lovely but I am afraid this will happen again and then the charm will be lost.
