The perfect start to the Starcrossed series. Dive into the world of modern-day demigods with a dazzling new enemies to lovers novel from bestselling author Josephine Angelini. This Greek mythology series is ideal for fans of Alexandra Bracken and Chloe Gong. New York City, 1993. It wasn't Daphne's choice to move into the heart of a struggle that has been secretly waging for thirty-three hundred years, but not much in her life has been up to her. Fate has brought Daphne, daughter of Zeus, and Heir to the House of Atreus to where the descendants of the Greek gods can shed blood over her once again. Men are fated to kill for her. But New York holds a surprise for Daphne and her cursed face- the same one that once launched a thousand ships. A series of murals painted all over town mysteriously pull at her in ways she can't understand. That's because the artist is Ajax Delos, Son of Apollo, Scion of the House of Thebes, and Daphne's mortal enemy. She found the one worth dying for. With the Fates manipulating them like pieces on a chessboard, Daphne and Ajax must find a way to break the cycle of destruction set in motion by their ancestors before the walls of Troy, or risk becoming yet another pair of star-crossed lovers doomed to repeat the same fatal mistakes.

heart wrenching adaptation of Greek myths in NYC

This prequel/continuation of the "Starcrossed"-series left me in tears. The protagonist is Daphne (also known as Helen's mom from the original trilogy), a rebellious, teenage Greek demi-goddess, living with her dad and step-mom in New York City in 1993. When she meets Ajax, the son of a rival family, her world is turned upside down as a game of hide and seek between the two of them begins. They cannot be together but neither can they stay apart. Even the side-characters are very well written and the whole setting feels grunge-y and has an opposite vibe to Nantucket. With the knowledge of the characters I've gained by reading the original three books, their story hits even deeper and I can't wait for the next book! This book can be read as a stand-alone and first or fourth book in the series. Definitely recommend! TW: death, violence, family abuse, sexual abuse

Good story when I was 13, great story when I’m 23!

I have been a fan of Josephine Angelini since I first picked up Starcrossed. I loved getting to learn about Daphne and Ajax’s love story after hearing about it in the first three novels. I couldn’t recommend this book more!

Bring on the Starcrossed revival!

I know it’s only January but Scions might be my favourite read of the year! I was a huge fan of the original Starcrossed series over a decade ago and have re-read it regularly throughout the years. You can imagine my excitement when a prequel (and three more books) were announced for the series! I was unsure of what to expect going into Scions. I, along with others I’m sure, disliked the protagonist, Daphne but I also saw a reason for her actions in Starcrossed. They weren’t right but I could see why she did what she did. Reading from her perspective was so interesting - unlike Helen, she didn’t have a conventional childhood, which made her a much more engaging character for me. I adored her relationship with Ajax, especially their letters, the art-related scenes, and how their relationship developed overtime. I flew through this book and can’t wait to read the next one. Even after 11 years, I’m still obsessed with this world and can’t wait to see what Angelini has in store for us. Masterful storytelling, loveable and complex characters, an enriching love story - 5 stars from me!

Great read once again!! Highly recommend!!!

I absolutely love this book. I first read the starcrossed series in my eight grade year of middle school I had asked for a suggestion in my local library and the librarian knew me well so she recommended Starcrossed. When I tell you that I was hooked from the very first page, you’d most likely not believe me but the truth is I was. The beautiful relationship between Helen and jerry was so beautiful and hit close to home. So I was already In love with the book before even getting to the Greek mythology and romance sections. I remember the anxiety of waiting for the next book and then again when I was waiting for goddess. It was so stressful, in a good way, waiting for those books to come out! When I heard it would be the last book in the series I was devastated but I was thankful for the three wonderful book we were given. Many years later I hear taht there is a new book coming out and I thought it would be a continuation of the Starcrossed series and when I finally found out it was a prequel about Helen’s mother I was a little disappointed to be quite honest. But after reading this book I am so glad we have been given a different perspective and story within the same universe. Without spoiling anything, I will just say that it’s a magical book and I cannot wait for the adventures to come!! I will still have hope that maybe one day we get another book about Helen’s life but in the meantime it means the world to me to have this beautiful series in the same universe that I fell in love with so many years ago!

Wasn't a Daphne fan until now!

Semi spoilers ahead... I never liked Daphne in the Starcrossed series, I didn't like her hidden agenda and her mentality of doing things because "that's how it's happened before", but Josephine Angelini once again amazes me. Not only did I connect to her as a character, but Josephine writes in ways that keep the momentum and tension going. I simply couldn't believe how strongly I felt the concern, anger and happiness doe Daphne throughout her journey. Her writing style also is an in an easy manner to follow along, the characters sound like normal people, which makes the this story feel like I could actually happen. Also, the Audible narrator was wonderful to listen to. Cannot wait for the next book!

Loved it!

As an avid fan of the original Starcrossed series, this was the perfect prequel companion. It allowed me to understand these characters by seeing them in a completely different light. It allowed us to get to know these characters without encroaching on what we already know. I loved the way it covered events from before the stories we’d heard about and set those scenes up perfectly. I loved getting to know these characters and begin to love them where before I’ve hated them, and am left sad knowing what is to come for them, but that is just the perfect writing from Josephine.

Great Read!

Scions by Josephine Angelini is an absolute treasure. I've been a huge fan of the series since the beginning and getting to read Daphne's backstory was fascinating. I've not always known what to make of Daphne in the Starcrossed series and wasn't expecting to like her as much as I did reading Scions. Scions is such a great book and enriches the Starcrossed world even more. This is a must read for any fan!
