Loved

Very cute, I know I’m several years late on this but that’s just me, forever late to the party. Overall a pretty quick and enjoyable read. The only person I didn’t like was Leah, can anyone tell me if she gets better in the other books or is she just…like that? I never figured out her baggage and honestly, she was a pretty bad friend to Simon throughout. And obviously she’s a poor friend to Abby, Leah doesn’t even want to be friends with her! Because Abby is pretty, smart, and talented? I dunno Leah, that’s not very women supporting women of you. Do some self reflecting, figure out that internalized misogyny, and call us when you’re better, sweetie. I’m rooting for you. Oh and honestly Martin was a jerk too. I can completely understand how Simon was kinda friends with Martin, kinda not, as someone who suffers a tendency to be friends with people who are not kind to me. It’s the people pleaser in me. But honestly cut him out of your group, Simon! Threatening to out people, especially in ah, less progressive areas, is so unbelievably vicious. Sorry not sorry but Martin is a monster. All this, by the way, to try to push his advances on a girl who did not want his romantic attention! Also making a whole bunch of excuses for himself in his “apology” email to Simon that was basically all “I was in a weird space” and he was bizarrely resentful to his parents accepting his older brother coming out as gay? Try again. I know I spent all of this review complaining about the two people I didn’t like but honestly it was good! I would definitely read the other books in the series.

EXCELLENT READ!!!

I found the book amazing, it was very relatable in the aspect of a high schoolers life. It really expressed our main character Simon, and his many concerns about himself, family, friends, love interests and aquaintences from school. As a high school student myself I would most definetly recomend, it checked all the boxes of the high school struggle for love.

Great story and relatable

I read this book after having seen the movie; as usual the book was better. The main character was relatable and real. The development of their identity was well thought out and heartwarming, especially the family dynamic. You will tear through this book!

My take on Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

I wanted to read this book before watching the movie and I'm glad I did. This book was not relatable to me but it opened my mind to a different life being lived. I think the author made a good decision on bringing the readers into a systematic life of Simon before his coming out. As an attached reader I followed his character closely throughout the story line, and began to understand his emotions. As a student, I understand the need to fit into social norms, and the normality standards that might uphold. Using that relation throughout the story, it makes the story much more emotional. I think this is a good book for all students. It indirectly points out the negative in stereotypes, like sexuality, and "popularity." I think as an adult this is a great read as well. More specifically as a parent, understanding the anxiety behind being a kid in the modern world. The rise in social media and online appearances, makes it much harder to shelter yourself. So reading this could help the pre-2000's parents with a better knowledge of the mind of a child going through the worst of society. But asides the fact of who the reader and audience would be. The book is an emotional drive and one you will want to partake in.

I love Simon and Blue

I watched this movie and then of course, I had to read the book. I loved them both, although they were very different. Simon and his ragtag friends were typical high school students, some dealing with more grown up issues but they stuck together and tried to help each other through things that they were dealing with. I loved the email relationship between Simon and Blue, it was great that they got to know each other so well before they even saw each other. I am hopeful that other kids who may be holding in their true feelings would have the type of support that the kids in this book had for each other.
