WARNING!!! This book is about an Eating Disorder!

Important Warning for Parents! This is a book about an EATING DISORDER I recently purchased this book for my 9-year-old daughter after she picked it out from the kids’ section at Barnes & Noble. At first glance, the cover and title seemed perfectly appropriate for her age. However, I was shocked to discover that the story revolves around an eating disorder—a sensitive and complex topic that I wasn’t prepared for her to encounter without guidance. As a Registered Dietitian and a mom of two daughters, I fully appreciate the importance of addressing these conversations. But I was deeply disappointed that this book was displayed without any clear indication of the subject matter. A content warning on the cover would have been invaluable for parents making informed decisions- shame on this selfish author! The lack of transparency in the presentation of this book is concerning. I urge publishers and retailers to consider adding visible warnings for sensitive content, ensuring that parents can better guide their children’s reading choices. Also, I asked my daughter if this book was part of a series while at Barnes and Noble and an employee overheard us and immediately said it was not. She should have pulled me aside and gave me a heads up.

Warning! Not a book for children

Unfortunately my 11 year old read this book about an eating disorder and now she doesn’t want to eat. Barns and Nobel should not sell this book to children. It is not a kids book.
