Not Soft

For 30 years of my life I have purchased high quality sheets 800+ thread count and was recently told that cotton sheets with sateen would be just as soft. Lies it is all lies. I received these yesterday and they felt rough upon opening and smelled like cardboard, I gave them a wash as I do with any new bedding and washed them as per the instructions, they did get a little softer after washing but these sheets do not meet my expectations of soft. I give them 3 stars because they are cool to sleep in which is another issue I have especially with high thread count sheets I get hot at night, but I just cannot handle the scratchy feel on my skin. I might be able to use the top sheet and just replace the pillow cases and fitted with my higher thread count.
