This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl's pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now. When her mother's mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice's tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice's mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own. Read all the books in the New York Times bestselling Splintered series: Splintered (Book 1), Unhinged (Book 2), Ensnared (Book 3), and Untamed (The Companion Novel). Whimsical, Adventurous, Magical

This was a very fun retelling of a beloved fairytale. Much like her mother and grandmother, Alyssa hears the whispers of bugs and flowers, in hopes of getting her mother out of the mental hospital Alyssa follows the calling back to wonderland. Fortunately, she didn’t make the trip alone. She is accompanied by her Friend Jeb on her quest to help her mother.

Highly Recommend

I thought that It was an awesome read, with all of the murderous plants, Alyssa doing what Is right, and ruling all of Wonderland by just putting the golden crown on. Especially when she saves Jeb from forgetting who and where he Is. Cannot wait to read the rest of the series.

Great tie-ins to the original Alice

This book took longer than expected to finish. I just couldn’t get into it. I love a good Alice retelling, but this was not it. There were good moments a d the premise is good, but Alyssa (the MC) wasn’t real enough for me. She trusted all of the wrong people all of the time. The saving Grace of this story was that the ties to the original were sound and well-thought out. They made me keep thinking “ that’s cool how she did that!”
