I received the first book in the “Bruce” series, “Mother Bruce”, from a colleague who is a literacy specialist at the school where I teach. I was impressed with the book immediately based on the illustrations of Bruce, the main character, on the cover. My 4-year-old daughter’s nickname is “Bear” so I assumed she would enjoy the story because she generally likes anything that includes her “likeness”. When my daughter, my husband, and I snuggled together that night to read “Mother Bruce” we were all pleasantly surprised! The characters and the plot were not at all what we had anticipated. The book had us laughing hysterically! The book had many comedic elements but also included themes of kindness, compassion, and genuine love that will entertain both children and adults alike! The next day my family and I discovered that “Bruce” was a series, and “Spring Stinks” was our next choice. “Spring Stinks” is a laugh out loud tale of a little bunny named Ruth who tries to introduce and inspire Bruce to the awakening of his senses to Spring. Your child and your family will love all the silly surprises along the way! “Spring Stinks” also introduces some new characters that keep us rolling from laughter in later Bruce tales. FIVE out of FIVE for “SPRING STINKS”!
