Winner of the Michael L. Printz Award* “An emotionally raw thriller…a haunting account of captivity and the power of relationships.” — Publishers Weekly, starred review The captivating, disturbing, and heartbreakingly beautiful thriller from award-winning and critically acclaimed author, Lucy Christopher. A girl: Gemma, 16, at the airport, on her way to a family vacation. A guy: Ty, rugged, tan, too old, oddly familiar, eyes blue as ice. She steps away. For just a second. He pays for her drink. And drugs it. They talk. Their hands touch. And before Gemma knows what's happening, Ty takes her. Steals her away. To sand and heat. To emptiness and isolation. To nowhere. And expects her to love him. Written as a letter from a victim to her captor, Stolen is Gemma's desperate story of survival; of how she has to come to terms with her living nightmare—or die trying to fight it.

Loved!

After months of not being motivated to read, I found this book and gave it a try. I have absolutely zero regrets, because it was great! There were times when it dragged a bit, but honestly it was never a problem. Would recommend!

Overrated Yet Extremely Flawed Book

Do people not realize that Ty is an awful person? He stalked a child for 6 years and then kidnapped them, and this book tries to justify that with cryptic messaging. I got really hooked at the start of the book and think that it was one of the best starts to a book I've ever read, but after a certain point, the book becomes a drag. The book starts to stretch really quickly, and I understand that is on purpose to try to show how time passes slowly, but it doesn't make for an entertaining book. At one point in the book, you read 40+ pages of a camel that is never brought up again. At another point in the book, there is a huge build-up of Ty being an artist which never gets brought up again. If him being an artist is supposed to show his humanity/how he is a good person, then I suppose you think a particular world leader from the 1930s-1940s was also a great person. My point is, none of these long stretches serve to add anything to the story and are a massive waste of my time. All of this long slow build-up just for an ending shows the main character's side with the pedophile that kidnapped her. People who think Ty is a good character are just wrong, and the praise this book gets is flawed.

My all time favorite book!!!!

Although I read this book for the first time almost a year ago I think about this book weekly. I have even given it to multiple friends and every time I get a face time call with them on the other line balling their eyes out. I have zero criticism except I wish it was longer. This book is not hard to read and is written interestingly (as a letter to her captor). I would strongly recommend this book to anyone. I dream of a world where this book gets more attention on reading websites and social media. :)
