Tea is an incredibly compelling young girl. An avid learner, who thinks for herself and questions authority, it’s so easy to love her and be on her side. If you’ve ever felt the singing betrayal of not being able to trust those who are guiding you then you’re gonna love this series

I bought this book a week ago and could not get into it- typical modern day no plot, lots of made up words and worlds with no depth or no sense.

Love it!
Title: Bone Witch Author: Rin Chupeco Release Date: March 7th, 2017 Page Count: 306 Format: Audiobook Start Date: February 24th, 2023 Finish Date: February 26th, 2023 Rating: 5 Stars Review: I've had this book on my TBR list for a very long time. I was enthralled by the cover. It just spoke loudly to me. I finally caved and read it. I have a physical copy in my book stacks somewhere, but I listened to the book in audiobook. I'm going to be honest. It wasn't at all what I was expecting it to be. I was expecting it to be darker than it was. Not that it wasn't dark. I'm also not complaining. I go into books blindly so I can have the opportunity to develop theories on the little I know. I don't get mad when I’m wrong. Especially when it takes a wonderful turn. This is one of those books. I'm going to need to get my hands on the other two books in this series. I also want to read other books by this author as well. I love their writing style so much!

Tea was an interesting character
My feelings are a little mixed with this book. I am kind of disappointed that I didn’t like this book more than I did since the main character has a gift for necromancy. I liked the book for the most part but there were parts that felt really slow and other sections that left me slightly confused. I thought that the overall premise of the story was well done but I wasn’t a huge fan of the dual timelines and was always more interested in the past over the present which was told through a bard. I listened to the audiobook and thought that both Emily Woo Zeller and Will Damron did a great job with the story. I doubt that I will continue with the series. I received a digital review copy of this book from Sourcebooks Fire and borrowed a copy of the audiobook.

A Dark, Intriguing Fantasy
The Bone Witch trilogy is a series by Rin Chupeco that revolves around a young woman named Tea who, after losing the love of her life, goes on a righteous rampage to avenge not only her fallen lover, but also to revenge against those who’ve wronged her. Aside from the world building and the pacing, I loved this book. I absolutely adored Tea and her friends, as well as the representation in this book. I stayed up all night trying to finish this, and I was so sad when I did. Nonetheless, this book is perfect for audiences who are looking for darker stories involving mystery, intrigue, and a little bit of romance in between. Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Good
Never heard of this but got drawn by the premise and that cover. First half was a bit slow but the more I read, the more I was liking the characters and the world building by the second half. Overall, this was a good start to the series and love that cover.

Spectacular!
The Bone Witch was a unique and magical novel. I enjoyed the plot and geisha-like magical weilding characters. The world of magic and daeva that Rin Chupeco created in this novel was just spectacular. And the alternating narrative of the past and present really made this novel more intriguing. Tea was a great character to read about. It was very interesting to see her grow and learn to develop her powers. Fox was a nice brother. Mykaela was a great mentor. And there were many more interesting characters. And the ending was just - wow! I can't wait to read the next book!

Really Good Book
The Bone Witch would have to be one my favorite witchy books of 2020. I have never read a book like this before, and I enjoyed every bit of it. So, Brittany, what is it all about? Well it’s about a girl named Tea, who one day resurrects her dead brother from the grave without even thinking about it. Then a bone witch, or a Dark asha, named Lady Mykaela, comes into her village and takes her and her brother Fox, which is now Tea’s familiar, to a village where she will learn how to become a Dark Asha. At first, she pretty much had to work for a woman named Mistress Parmina and it was brutal, hard work, though it was simple enough. I never really liked Mistress Parmina because of how hard she was and how much work she made Ta do before she became an apprentice. Then one night someone told her to go to a tea house to deliver something…and that’s when things got bad. Zoya, the princess, I believe, kept taunting her, and Tea got really mad to the point that she summoned bone mice and the skeleton of a long ago dead king, right in front of Prince Kance and Kalen. Tea pretty much blacked out after it happened, and then when she woke up, she found out that she will be an asha-ka in training (or i’ve gotten it backwards, and she’s already an asha-ka in training already). And she takes classes like defense, singing lessons, dancing lessons, even fighting lessons, She even learned how to block Fox out of her mind, which made him worry and make him pound on the door, because he thought she was trouble. Tea also have another familiar, a horse she named Cloud, I think, and the two share her mind-her brother and a horse. Then came the time she put down a daeva-well, actually she told it to go away once it came towards Lady Mykaela, since she wanted to protect her. Once the dragon daeva flew away, her brother Fox called her foolish, but was glad that she was alright. Then she called in front of the Elders, and she took their test and passed, though she thought she failed (same, I think that each time I take a test.) Then she had to go to parties for three months, but the dragon deva, the azi, was still out there, still alive, so she and her friends and her brother went out to go and kill it, but Tea got into it’s mind and made it obey her, and it did, and then it flew off into the water. But the shocking part was when she had to confront the Faceless, which turned out to be a maid named Fahi, who’s real name is Anaeha. She tried to control Fox, only to fail when Chief came in through the door and knocked her down. Now she has four familiars-Fox, her brother, Chief, her horse, the azi and Anaeha. But what I loved the most about this book was the world building. It was so good that I got sucked in immediately and wanted to be a asha-ka myself (in my heart, I will be…) The narration was fantastic, and I enjoyed myself reading this book so much.
