Best Fantasy I've read in years!

This trilogy had me hooked. The world building was amazing. I felt fully immersed from the first few chapters. If it's on your TBR or you're thinking about starting it, read it now. I loved all the characters and immediately after finishing COB I ran to buy the next 2 books. Loved them!

Captivating story!

Nahri, thief and con artist, doesn’t believe in magic—until she accidentally summons Dara, a haughty djinn warrior who changes the course of her life. Prince Ali’s eyes have been opened to the disparity and corruption in the city of brass, but to defy his father would mean a death sentence. As Nahri and Ali form a tentative friendship, old resentments and court politics threaten everything… The pace of the plot and world-building was great, with action propelling us into the story from almost the very beginning. I loved getting to know these characters and learn more about this world, but it was hard to trust any version of the truth about the past war. It was hard to know who to root for sometimes. The climax was fast and intense—a few developments were a little disorienting as they unfolded, but were explained enough in the closing chapters. I’m intrigued to continue the trilogy.

Must Read!

I mean, just WOW. This North African and Middle Eastern-inspired fantasy was stunning. Chakraborty writing is pure love. She seamlessly weaves together complex characters - who deal with external and internal turmoil throughout the book, family and cultural feuds and uprisings, a multiplex history, crazy politics, all while creating an extraordinary world that feels like you are right in the middle of it all. The City of Brass is a world that I want to visit again and again.

Mythologically-rich Middle Eastern Fantasy

A mythologically-rich Middle Eastern fantasy novel that is perfect for those looking for a fun, light read with a dash of romance included. I will say that nothing I read previously about this novel mentioned the romance aspect, so when I came across it, I was thinking uh-oh - not what I was expecting and I sure hoped it wasn't going to be a big part of the story. Thankfully, it wasn't. This story is told from the perspectives of Nahri, a con artist from Cairo with an amazing, yet uncanny talent for healing and from Ali, the prince of Daevabad, the second son of the king. From the moment I met Ali, I was fascinated with his story and I felt he had a great character arc ahead of him and I was not disappointed. I also have the feeling I have a lot of what would be considered unpopular opinions concerning him and a djinn warrior, Dara. LOL Nahri is performing a ceremony as part of a con and accidentally summons Dara - a Daeva warrior who rattles her beliefs (or previous lack of) with outlandish tales of a magical city hidden by a veil from human eyes, wars and mythical creatures. The story starts out very light, but quickly turns dark and brutal once the pair reach Daevabad and become entangled in court politics. I loved the story of the Daeva people - how djinn slaves were made, the different ins and outs of the magic and the constant unpredictability of where the story went. I started out thinking this would not be a book I would enjoy and ended up eager to read the next book in the series!

Interesting

This book was not my usual genre, but it was interesting. The characters were complex and likable. The plot moved a lot at a good pace. Thank you to the Book Club Girls, NetGalley and Scribd for making this book available. #Netgalley #Thecityof brass

Gorgeous storytelling

I couldn't put this down! I loved the setting and the mythology. My only complaint is that I couldn't wait to start book 2 because I had so many questions that still needed to be answered!

Lots of twists and turns

This story is full of twists and turns that I never saw coming. I love that the main characters are proud and flawed, yet still full of love and loyalty despite their experiences. An artfully woven tale of family, history and magic!
