One star is generous.

This book was one of the worst books I’ve read in a very long time, maybe ever. The unfortunate thing is that I really liked the first three books in the Selection series and rated them all four stars. The writing in this book felt sloppy and rushed. The main character was absolutely insufferable and made everything about herself. She also wasn’t good at her job as queen-in-training and the attempt to make this book more about the politics in this world was an utter fail. She had zero chemistry with anyone in the book and everything felt very forced. This book takes place in the castle the entire time which gets very boring. I think if the book was narrated by one of the selected or the staff or the translator it would have been much more interesting. Unrelated to the plot and characters, this book was two dollars more expensive than the previous book but was forty pages less. Over all, a terrible read. I would not recommend this book to my worst enemy. -Spoiler section- For a more detailed review I am going to be spoiling some things. I could easily predict that Eadlyn would end up with Erik. Even though they had very little interaction in the previous book and they have only one or two romantic interactions before the proposal, they still got married. It makes no sense. Also, when one of the Selected comes out as gay, Eadlyn almost completely disregards how much this will impact his life even after explaining how horribly same-sex couples get treated. All she thinks about is how the news and press will react. P.S. I’m not entirely sure how the “Would you recommend this product to a friend?” feature works but if I do it incorrectly, I would not recommend this product to anyone.
