Loved it!
I finally made my way through Helen Hoang’s Kiss Quotient series and finished The Heart Principle and it is not only my favorite of the three books, but it’s definitely a favorite read of the year for me! This book cranks it up to eleven; definitely all the stars! I related with Anna I think more than any other FMC I’ve ever read and this book helped me to see myself in new ways. Of course, the romance with Anna and Quan is the unconditional love that tugs at the heart strings in just the right way to not feel too rushed or too gushy and is perfectly warm (and spicy!).

A Sweet & Heartfelt Romance
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while, even though I was a aware of it being in a series I dove right into this book! One of the main things that caught my eye was the switching persepectives! The main character, Anna, is a people-pleaser and someone who seems so genuine, yet broken. Quan, her love interest, also is on the rise to fixing himself after some life changes. They go through lot of obstacles and a genuine and bittersweet love story. The novel touches many topics, but it especially shows that love (romantic, platonic, family, self) isn’t linear and perfect and truly grasps you. Hoang, the author, also writes in the story on some parts of how hard it is for the characters being from a cultural background. When it comes to how spicy this book is, I would say it’s the perfect amount. I don’t even remember the last time I read a book as fast as I did with this one!! It’s emotional. It’s raw. It’s relatable in so many different way!! There’s so much more that I would wrote about, but you’ve got to find out more about the novel yourself!! Totally would recommend:)

A story full of emotional intensity
Whoa, this one is going to get you in the gut and pull your heartstrings. The only reason I didn’t give it a full 5 stars is because this story made me feel just a little bit too much, and I generally like my reading to be a bit more relaxed. This is jam packed with every emotion under the sun - be prepared for tears and laughs and heartache. I love how Helen writes with such beautiful authenticity, offering a glimpse into what it is like to think differently.

Heartbreaking and beautiful romance
This was a beautiful book. I feel lucky as a reader to be able to follow along in both Anna and Quan’s individual journey and emotional growth. Wow! Anna’s personal growth throughout the book was heartbreaking, frustrating, and beautiful. There is a scene where Anna is looking at her butterflies and I just felt, by how intimately it was written, that this was a special moment from the author’s life. This is confirmed later in her acknowledgments. Anna really went through a tough transformation in this book. From finding out she’s autistic, being a caretaker, to standing up to her family for those she loves (including herself), she went on an emotional roller coaster and I was right there with her. There were times I was genuinely infuriated by her family, especially her sister for constantly dismissing and gaslighting Anna. There were many scenes that were difficult to read. But it ends well and in a place of healing. I love the ending and the reconciliations she makes with people in her life. Quan is the ultimate hero! Im swooning hard for him. He is the kindest, most patient, and lovable partner. Sometimes in romance books, I feel like the author gives the love interest certain issues or hurdles to make the character seem more complex. But it often feels shallow and the character ends up flat. This was not the case with Quan. As a recent cancer survivor, he is grappling with a lot of changes both physically and emotionally. The author gives him enough time in the story to make Quan come to life. There is a moment of great internal struggle where he learns how to accept his new normal. And it was one of my favorite chapters in the book. While I loved the cute romance between Stella and Michael in The Kiss Quotient, I think Anna and Quan will stick with me longer. This book is a romance but the characters’ personal journeys are explored at length and play an equal role in the story as the romance. If you’re into a lighthearted romance, this is not it. It’s heavy, emotional, cathartic, but it still ends with your romantic HEA. As you can tell, I loved this one a whole lot and I highly recommend. Spice level: R - detailed descriptions

Amazinf
5/5 although I wish I could give it more stars. Ok. I think this is the best book I have read all year—and y’all, I have read some amazing books. Below are my reactions to this book, and nothing more spoiler-y than what you’d read in the synopsis. The Heart Principle features Anna, a professional musician caught in the throes of self doubt and perfectionism, and Quan, the loveable character we’ve seen in The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test. Quan has gone through some major life changes and Anna is newly in an open relationship thats she’s not totally on board with. Together, they struggle through their new realities and discover new parts of themselves through a heart wrenching and emotional journey. THP is hands down my favorite Helen Hoang book to date. While there is a lot of fun, dorky, and laugh out loud moments in this book, there’s also some very serious topics surrounding mental health and being a caregiver. I’m a professional musician and my family is currently going through the caregiving stage of life with several relatives, and this book cracked my heart open and healed it in ways I didn’t even know I needed right now. It was extremely raw and emotional and I am just in awe of it, and so grateful that Helen Hoang has created this work of art to share with the world. When you read this, please be sure to read the Author’s Note at the end of the book too. It’s incredibly impactful. Utterly amazing and highly recommend.

Another hit!
Helen Hoang writes some amazing romances! Anna and Quan have a great dynamic, as Quan tries to slowly help Anna to build her self-confidence and realize she is worthy of her feelings and should tell her family. Family matters a lot to Anna, but they are not as caring to her, as the youngest girl, the one who should do whatever they say without question. As they're dealing with their ailing father, tensions run high, and Anna finds she cannot go any further without being honest. It was beautiful, difficult, and touching to read about. Quan has his own hang-ups that Anna gets to show him are nothing compared to how wonderful of a man he is, in his heart. The steamy scenes were great, and it's always nice to read stories where the female lead isn't always s*x-savvy.

Fun romance
I received a free copy of this book from #Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Anna Lam is an aspiring classical violinist. When a video of her playing goes viral, she becomes paralyzed from her pursuit of perfection and can't play. Then, her boyfriend asks her for an open relationship before committing to something long term. Anna decides she wants to pursue a bunch of one night stands to see if she's been missing out on anything and also to try to unblock her stifled creative life. When she meets a tattooed motorcycle riding guy on her first blind date, she doesn't expect to find someone so tender...someone she could fall in love with. I love Helen Hoang but this book was not my favorite of hers. Still a heart warming story. #TheHeartPrinciple #Netgalley

Heartfelt, Beautiful love story of Anna & Quan
Once again, the story continues but this time it was Anna and Quan’s story. Another great book following , “The Kiss Quotient” and “The Bride Test”. Anna was the epitome of being a “people pleaser”, she always thought of what would make others happy, even if she didn’t want to do something, If it made the other person happy, she did it anyways. For example, Anna doing certain things for her boyfriend Julian, and agreeing to do the open relationship. Anna didn’t like the idea of an open relationship, but she did it for the sake of her relationship with Julian and partly wanting to prove him wrong in that she could also meet other men. There was more to Anna especially in regards to wanting to please everyone, it was something that was deep in her subconscious that greatly affected her way of life whether she wanted to admit it or not. The way the story was spread out was interesting both in terms of the timeline and of course the plot. By the middle of the book, I was interested seeing how Anna interacted with her family and it was surprising to read how different she acted around her family, being someone who she hoped her family would approve of. My heart felt for Anna because, she had to deal with a lot of personal problems varying from her own self and her family. Luckily Quan being the absolute MVP was there for Anna every step of the way, and if you don’t agree as him being a fantastic boyfriend then get out. Jokes aside though, I loved how Quan was attentive, helpful, and mindful especially with Anna. In addition, Quan was so patient and understanding with Anna that it was refreshing to see because, Anna was always use to doing whatever Julian or what everyone else wanted, never asking what Anna wanted. With Quan, he prioritized Anna’s feelings, wants, needs, concerns. If there’s one thing I love in a male character is him being attentive. Quan took into consideration things that Anna didn’t like, and wanted to make sure she felt comfortable at all times. In a way, I felt that while reading it reminded me a bit of Michael and Stella (from “The Kiss Quotient”). There were some similarities between Quan and Michael, aside from them being family, they both shared the same mindset and even in their own romantic endeavors, each man made their woman’s feelings the priority. This story was simply beautiful. The story tugged on my heartstrings, made me smile, had me rooting for Quan and Anna, and overall Helen Hoang stealing my heart once again with her books. This book was fantastic and aside from the romance, it also highlighted some serious topics that were both eye opening and sad. Overall I would highly recommend this story and basically all of Helen Hoang’s books.
