A beautiful book, beautifully written. Inspiring

I come from a nonreligious Jewish family. I knew about the Holocaust but felt little connection with my Jewish heritage until I read "The Lost." I've given this book to some relatives, over the years. I loved reading what Mr. Mendelsohn learned about his relatives who were killed in their small town when the Germans arrived during World War II. His description of them allows them to have a type of life. The book reminded me of how lucky I am that my Jewish ancestors emigrated to America from the Old Country during the pogrom era.I believe that, like Mr. Mendelsohn's relatives, any relatives of mine who stayed behind were slaughtered when the Germans arrived during World War II. I know what happened in the towns they came from but know nothing about who they were. Mr. Mendelsohn's wonderful writing made me more aware of my roots.
