INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!Fiona Davis, New York Times bestselling author of The Lions of Fifth Avenue, returns with a tantalizing novel about the secrets, betrayal, and murder within one of New York City's most impressive Gilded Age mansions.Eight months since losing her mother in the Spanish flu outbreak of 1919, twenty-one-year-old Lillian Carter's life has completely fallen apart. For the past six years, under the moniker Angelica, Lillian was one of the most sought-after artists' models in New York City, with statues based on her figure gracing landmarks from the Plaza Hotel to the Brooklyn Bridge. But with her mother gone, a grieving Lillian is rudderless and desperate—the work has dried up and a looming scandal has left her entirely without a safe haven. So when she stumbles upon an employment opportunity at the Frick mansion—a building that, ironically, bears her own visage—Lillian jumps at the chance. But the longer she works as a private secretary to the imperious and demanding Helen Frick, the daughter and heiress of industrialist and art patron Henry Clay Frick, the more deeply her life gets intertwined with that of the family—pulling her into a tangled web of romantic trysts, stolen jewels, and family drama that runs so deep, the stakes just may be life or death.

Love and Art

As enchanting a story as all of Ms. Davis’ stories are, the history is what grabs you in this one. The Frick House its art and book collections in NY are the primary backdrop of the story of the Frick family and it’s staff. We are taken on a journey of longing, grief, love, adversity, strength, and above all art, that caused me upon finishing the book to immediately search out the home’s pictures, art and the non fictional story. How many books do you read that capture your interest so much that you instantly need more! Very few. But this story is so good that when you’re done here is the link! https://www.frick.org/visit Definitely read this book.

Frick Museum

Loosely based on 1910 super model Audrey Munson who posed for many of the famous status located throughout New York and the real-life Helen Clay Frick, Davis takes us on a magical journey through the workings of the Frick household during 1919 and an imaginary interaction between Helen and her assistant Lillian Carter. The story uses two-time lines, 1919 and 1966 bringing the central characters together at the end. It is an engaging story that leads you to google and plants the seed for exploring the Frick Collection Museum.
