Much more than simple principles and platitudes, The Power of Now takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality; the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, "the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death." Only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.

Ten top ideas in the book

1. The present moment is all we ever have, and it is the only place where we can experience true peace and joy. 2. The mind creates a false sense of self, or ego, which is separate from our true nature as consciousness or spirit. 3. Identifying with the ego leads to suffering, because the ego is constantly seeking validation and can never be satisfied. 4. We can break free from the ego by learning to observe our thoughts and emotions without judgment, and by becoming more present in our daily lives. 5. True happiness comes from within, and cannot be found in external circumstances or material possessions. 6. Surrendering to the present moment means accepting what is without resistance or judgment, and embracing the flow of life. 7. Mindfulness practices such as meditation and deep breathing can help us cultivate presence and reduce the power of the ego. 8. The pain body is a collection of past emotional pain that can be triggered by present circumstances, and learning to observe and release this pain is essential to achieving inner peace. 9. The ultimate purpose of our lives is to awaken to our true nature as consciousness, and to live in harmony with the present moment. 10. The power of now is available to us in every moment, and we can access it by shifting our attention from the past and future to the present moment.

Good but felt like I was running around in circles

I bought this book a while back and didn’t finish it honestly. Some of the stuff the author writes I do personally agree with, but I felt after a few chapters, I was running around in circles because he was repeating the same things over and over again. Personally, I felt a few chapters is enough to get the gist of what he’s trying to acomplish, after around chapter 7, that’s when inrecommend you don’t read anymore because I feel like he kept spewing nonsense to fill in a slot.
