A Christmas classic turned upside down.

This is a traditional Christmas story turned upside down, or rather, topsy-turvy, and it makes it a must-read. This family is in desperate need of Christmas spirit after a devasting loss and how a classic Christmas carol brings them just what they need. If you know the Christmas carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” you will know what to expect (especially if you remember the words). But, then again, you really will not be expecting it, since it is topsy-turvy and very messy. It is cleverly written and I found humor in the chaos of every chapter. It makes a great bedtime story, is an all-around feel-good story, and could even be read at any time of year. But you know you will be reading at Christmas for years to come. As I was reading this book, I kept imagining this as a movie and I would love to see this become one. If it is turned into a movie, I feel this would be an instant classic. I was familiar with James Patterson’s edge-of-your-seat writing, but the addition of Tad Safran’s heart and humor really brought this story to life. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Safran. I love the short chapters and how each chapter offers you a pause. This is a great read during the 12 Days of Christmas because each chapter is short. This gave me a sense of satisfaction for finishing each one. I didn’t expect to be moved to tears at the end but in a good way. And I am pretty sure that you will as well.

Not For Me

I usually like James Patterson books but not this one. I felt like it was written more for kids than adults.

Heartwarming read

This is my first read by Author James Patterson and Tad Safron. I enjoyed this book. Very entertaining. Laugh out loud in several areas. Love the characters each well developed. Heartwarming storyline. Ella, Will and their Dad are all so sad but grow and heal with the zany antics in this book.

Dumb and gross

I did not like the book at all. I felt it was way way too bizarre and that ruins any meaning in the end. I would not recommend it to anyone.

heartfelt, touching, cheerful, a fun holiday read

For 5 years, ever since the death of their mother, the Sullivan family, Dad Henry and children Will and Ella, have ignored Christmas and any semblance of celebration, mostly because Dad is so sad. Suddenly, the family begins to receive daily gifts from a mysterious benefactor. Each gift is based on a day in the famous song The Twelve Days of Christmas. The gifts are creative, original, destructive, and noisy. Learning how to deal with these strange gifts causes the Sullivan family to undergo major changes. The story is heartfelt, touching, and cheerful, a fun holiday read.
