A New York Times Bestseller! Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes. Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court. Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm. Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

I read the whole thing in one sitting!

First of all, this book had me kicking my feet and giggling on numerous occasions. This is a great story and very easy to read (I literally finished this book in one day and bought the second immediately). It’s perfect for fans of Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fae series, as the worlds are similar but the characters and plot is unique. With that being said, I have NEVER wanted to reach through a book and throttle a main character as much as I wanted to with this one. I had to keep reminding myself that the MC is only 17 and still a baby, so of course she doesn’t have the critical thinking skills you’d expect from someone in their 20s, but the whole plot could’ve been solved in 10 minutes if they just USED THEIR BRAINS AND COMMUNICATED!! Please keep in mind that this is a teens/YA series, so don’t pick it up expecting it to be an adult fantasy book. Anyone who says it’s an ACOTAR knockoff needs a reality check; ACOTAR is an adult fantasy series, this is most definitely not. It’s not supposed to have adult scenes and crazy plot twists or character reveals. It’s a well written book intended for the younger people and it’s entirely unfair to the author to compare it to ACOTAR or any popular adult fantasy series. In summary: great story, good writing, easy to consume, and one of those books that just makes you feel good. 10/10 recommend for an easy read.

Ryan’s fantasy debut left my jaw on the floor!

I enjoyed reading from Brie’s perspective! Though I knew what was going to happen to her before she did because of the predictability of the novel’s major plot points, I found her relationships with Prince Finnian and Prince Ronan intriguing. I don’t normally reach for books with love triangles, but Ryan breathes new life into this old trope by having her main character use both love interests to achieve her own hidden agenda. The more she gets to know both of the fae males, the more she grows attached to them, making her backstabbing that much more worse. Another aspect of the novel I appreciated is Ryan’s world-building! She does a great job making the Unseelie Court distinct from the Seelie Court in her descriptions. Additionally, she dives into the history of the rift between the two courts and showcases their unique customs and traditions. Ryan’s magic system is easy to follow and further showcases the differences between the two fae courts. Those who live in the Seelie Court, otherwise known as the Court of the Sun, have the power to manipulate light. Those who live in the Unseelie Court, otherwise known as the Court of the Moon, have the power to manipulate darkness. Brie discovers that she has power of her own when she crosses over from the human realm and the mystery surrounding its origins kept me on my toes. The end of “These Hollow Vows” left me reeling! Up until that point I was able to anticipate every plot twist, but nothing could have prepared me for the ultimate betrayal. Ryan’s masterful end makes it impossible not to pick up book two. I can’t wait to see how Brie gets her revenge.

I absolutely loved this book. Was not what I was expecting but highly exceeded my expectations. Couldn't put it down. Have book two on hand as it is a cliff hanger so you will immediately pick it up.

Fantasy full of conflict!

A thief, Abriella, breaks into the vault of a man who became rich from selling females into prostitution. She only steals enough to carry so he won’t notice it’s missing. On her way home, Brie (Abriella) stops at a friend’s home to pay for the contract her daughter has just signed with the rich man. She did this to get medicine for her mother. Now Brie doesn’t have enough money to pay her rent to Madam V., her greedy, horrible aunt who makes Brie and her younger sister Jas live in a basement storage room. Brie and Jas also have to slave away taking care of the house and two spoiled cousins. When Jas is sold to the Fae King, Brie travels through a portal pretending to be one of the many human women wanting to marry the Fae Prince Ronan. She meets an intriguing Fae male that keeps showing up wherever she goes but then she’s caught by the king and finds out he took Jas as bait to get Brie’s help. The king wants Brie to steal artifacts from Prince Ronan’s court. She sees Sebastian where she never thought she would and runs from him because she’s surprised and angry. Once she comes to terms with who Sebastian really is, Brie realizes that she can use it to her advantage in finding the relics and getting Jas back. She does care for Sebastian and feels guilty for using him. The intriguing Fae male is Finn and she works with his group to stop the king. They help her with the shadow magic she has. Brie feels trapped and alone throughout the story because she doesn't know if she can trust anyone but she perseveres to get Jas safe again. I enjoyed reading this book because of Brie, the main character. She’s strong, resilient and will do anything to save her sister. The conflicting two main male characters make the story interesting, especially since they’re both vying for Brie’s attention. 5 stars for this fantasy full of conflict! *I received a copy of this book for voluntary review consideration and all opinions and thoughts are my own.
