It's their getaway, their refuge. Rosie's friend Windy is always there, too, like the little sister she never had. But this summer is different. Rose's mom and dad won't stop fighting, and when Rose and Windy seek a distraction from the drama, they find themselves with a whole new set of problems. One of the local teens - just a couple of years older than Rose and Windy - is caught up in something bad... Something life threatening. It's a summer of secrets, and sorrow, and growing up, and it's a good thing Rose and Windy have each other. This One Summer is a tremendously exciting new teen graphic novel from two creators with true literary clout. Great illustrations, horrible writing.

I got this book at my school library, wanting a nice light read. If you like Ernest Hemingway's style of writing, very choppy then you may like this book. The feeling, and the reality of this book are unbelievably great. The illustrations, gorgeous. But the writing?! I understand that this is a graphic novel, and that Rose (the main character) might speak that way. But let me give you an example of a page, "Two years ago my mom decided she wanted another baby. She took all these drugs. And did all this stuff. But. No baby. Because. My mom's body didn't want one. Or parts of it. UTERUS. Or something." Who knows, maybe you like this type of writing, but I do not. I absolutely dislike this book, it gives me so much stress and just makes me want to clench my fists. Not because of the story, but because of the writing. I may just be a total snot because of this review, but I just wanted to put this out here. And the "Would you recommend this product to a friend?" don't take that personally, take the review and actually think if you would enjoy this book.
