Amazing! The author Nathan Hale has perfectly directed a graphic novel in his book, Treaties, Trenches, Mud, and Blood, that digs deep into the immersive timeline of WWI starting from 1918. While every single minute detail is not covered in a book like this, it not only shows deep perspectives of each and every country involved making it seem like they are one whole person just humorously, represented by an animal. This book gives the reader the perfect insight into who started it, why it started, each and every event leading up to the climax of the tragic war, and why and how it ended. A compact book like this has not only the information that I would get from reading two full chapter books yet creates a fun way for the reader to comprehend each and every one of the country's perspectives. Hale implemented a character to further enhance the reader's understanding and comprehension of the topic, he started the book off with a stubborn guy who had no understanding of the book and created into a story where he being the readers can truly take in the information. The information in this novel I would highly recommend to middle school readers, the setting of the book places it in the tragic war of WWI while still adding in creative elements that makes the conflict of countries fighting over land assassinations and treaties makes it a drawing experience for readers. A historical fiction tale is placed on the lands where the men fought, captured, and died and the whole setting even more advances it. The plot of the story is really what ties it together, Siberia being the wolves, had extreme conflict from the assassination of the emperor of the Austro-Hungarian empire and that was just the beginning. The story continues on just allies of Siberia and allies of those allies including the main countries like Russia, France, Great Britain, and later on the US against the allies of Austro-Hungary. With a main theme of Good vs. Evil, the story has a language that has an expressive feel of each country that is made to stick out to the reader to get an informative pov. The final ultimatum of the Austro-Hungarian allies was to settle this calamitous war by stopping the war on November 11, 1918. This graphic novel is the perfect informative book that gives a feel of a whole 500-page book while still adding in the humor that middle school or even high school readers would love. I cannot wait to read the next humorously packed book from Nathan Hale next.
