Could have been great
While, I’m a fan of Stephen Ambrose, this book fell flat. Why? When I read a work that is supposedly, non-fiction, when the author decides to throw in assumptions, speculations and opinions, it loses all credibility for me. This work could have been cut down to 350 pages and been a good read. The other 138 pages were nothing but filler. With that said, the brilliance of the work is the actual descriptions of the great adventure. The amount of resiliency Lewis, Clark and his men showed, defines the American Spirit of adventurism during those heady times. Three stars
