Three teens fight for their lives and each other in this breathtakingly suspenseful first book in the twisted, New York Times bestselling Unwind Dystology series by Neal Shusterman. After America's Second Civil War, the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life armies came to an agreement. According to their Bill of Life, human life may not be terminated from the moment of conception until the age of thirteen. But between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, the child may be gotten rid of by their parent through a process called unwinding. By repurposing a teen's organs and other body parts in living recipients, the unwound child's life doesn't technically end. According to society's leaders, unwinding leads to a healthier and safer community, as troublesome and unwanted teens are used for the greater good. Curtis is a rebel whose unwinding was ordered by his parents. Rita, a ward of the state, has been slated for unwinding due to cost cutting. And Lev, his parents' tenth child, has been destined for unwinding since birth as a religious tithe.

    Scarily Thrilling!!

Unwind is such a striking book. The plot is structured greatly, and I really enjoyed seeing each character's perspective on things. The scenarios were quite easy to predict, but it works really well with the story. The characters have so much depth and are each different yet relatable. Instead of being simple, the characters are well rounded and have many feelings and conflicts with each other and their challenges. If you're looking for a fast paced dystopian teen novel, this is definitely a great option. It's shocking and will definitely strike you emotionally. Each conflict and encounter led to the next, and I found myself getting even more involved in the book. I love that this book shows the multiple aspects of friendships, and teaches readers how blind trust can be dangerous. I personally like some of Shusterman’s other books better, but this was definitely a great read.

    My Thoughts

The plot is very organized and addictive. The action and parts of the plot are extremely well written and interesting, especially since the are three different main Point of Views. The structure is well blended to where you don't realize that you are in a different part of the plot until you are well into that section. And the characters are well developed and made to be understood. I especially like Lev, just because he goes from wanting to be unwound and hating Risa and Connor, to helping them and running away from being unwound. This book contains amazing storytelling and I love every part of it!

    Highly reccommend.

This book is really well written. There were some points I jumped at from anticipation thinking about what would happen next. It has really good wording and the emotion changes aren’t sudden like some books, it eases into it. The characters are really well written too. My favorite character out of everyone is Connor. Overall, I love this book.

    English paper

I have been reading a book named unwind this semester. This book is about three different kids who are all being sent to be unwound or taken apart, by the government. They try to deny this by running away and going AWOL. Throughout the book, they are each faced with different hardships that they must get through. I think that this book might be one of the best books i have ever read and it is definitely a favorite. I love how each chapter switches the narrative from character to character. This really allows you to show what the other characters are feeling and thinking in certain situations. I also liked how they managed to make all the characters meet at the beginning. It was very smoothly written into existence and just worked out perfectly. I also did not expect the ending. It really took me by surprise and is probably the reason I enjoyed the book as much as I did. Even though I loved the book, it did have its flaws. I know I am not the smartest person, but there were sometimes when I just found it impossible to keep up with what was happening or some of the events weren’t explained very well. Like in the beginning they were talking about “Clappers” and I had no idea what they were talking about at the time because there was no explanation as to what they were. But all around it was a joy to read the book and I really did have a good time reading it throughout the semester. I think the book is very unique and if you like a book that will have you on the edge of your seat I definitely would check it out.

    Very intriguing story

I loved this read. Shusterman does a good job of portraying sympathy and curiosity. I am not one to read a lot of books, but I'd say this book had an outstanding twist and was honestly a little sad in the end. Loved it.

    best book ive ever read

This is an amazing book. What I absolutely love about the book is the well thought out plot. It works perfectly with the characters and how it relates to us today (other than unwinding of course). It is really suspenseful, which led me to keep on reading. Like when Connor is running from the Juvey Cops and runs into Risa and Lev. The second thing I love about this book is the different first-person views. We as the readers switch from the view of many characters. The author did so well, I wasn’t bored reading some of the same scenes. We really get depth into how the characters feel and their opinions on things. Finally, I love the characters in this story. They work so well in how they converse with each other. I liked the beginning where it was 3 different points of view and they all came together into one big scene. Some of the events were so shocking to the point where I had to put the book down for a minute and think “what in the world just happened?! This is awesome.” I was so interested in this book to the point where I brought it in the car and everywhere; I chose it over my phone!
