not certain that this technology works

i received the shirt for my husband - he has fat days and skinny days -and i was excited to see the collar perform. there was no stretch in the collar or band - he thought it was uncomfortable and did not notice any give or expansion in the collar - and certainly not 1/2" as advertised. this is just a plain old dress shirt.
