vita clay
This is considered an organic slow cooker , I have had it for a bit over 2 years. I was looking for a rice cooker that didnt have toxic metal, aluminum or toxic coating . we eat a lot of rice , but I make it an enamel pot since I couldn't find a nontoxic rice cooker to my standards . My rice came out good or not so good it was always a 50/50 thing. This clay pot cooker has never ever let me down, I think it's impossible to get anything but perfect rice. It uses nearly half the water. I can cook the rice in bone broth / water. same results. I find it disappointing the FDA doesn't regulate toxins, but they dont...this cooker is wonderful.
Not What I Expected
This is not something that is a time saver or easy to use that best. The clay pot itself is very heavy , you can’t brown meat in it, as you would for beef stew before you slow, cook it. Everything you’re making it must have at least 2 to 3 cups of liquid . It’s a rice cooker . It can make soup and stew and pasta. But it requires a lot of returning to the part to add ingredients, to stir ingredients , to make sure they’re not undercooked, or overcooked. The recipe book that comes with it is for an international customer who is used to eating many different kinds of cuisine,, I don’t have the ingredients for a lot of the recipes in the book. It is geared for European and Asian cuisine. Since I have a crockpot and a simple rice cooker, I I returned it. It got too complicated. The care and use booklet is about 15 pages long.. This is perfect for someone who doesn’t have an oven, who doesn’t have a stove, a microwave, or any other cooking vessel.
Returned
I RETURNED IT because: 1. This says 4.2 quarts but it holds exactly 3 quarts to the rim. I measured water to check. I also checked the model number on the box and on the appliance to make sure they sent the correct item. All said 4.2 quarts. 2. It goes to a boil on soup (more slowly) or stew (faster) mode and stays there. Bone broth will not gel if cooked at a boil. Deal-breaker! 3. The control buttons are hard to see, I had to get a flashlight and lean over to see the faint letters. 4. The instructions are too vague. Never mentions slow or fast setting or how to set the time, especially for warm. I wanted to love this cooker, sooo disappointed.
