A Time Best YA Book of All Time (2021) From the "author to watch" (Kirkus Reviews) of The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley comes an "equal parts sarcastic and profound" (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) novel about a teenage boy who must decide whether or not the world is worth saving. Henry Denton has spent years being periodically abducted by aliens. Then the aliens give him an ultimatum: The world will end in 144 days, and all Henry has to do to stop it is push a big red button. Only he isn't sure he wants to. After all, life hasn't been great for Henry. His mom is a struggling waitress held together by a thin layer of cigarette smoke. His brother is a jobless dropout who just knocked someone up. His grandmother is slowly losing herself to Alzheimer's. And Henry is still dealing with the grief of his boyfriend's suicide last year. Wiping the slate clean sounds like a pretty good choice to him. But Henry is a scientist first, and facing the question thoroughly and logically, he begins to look for pros and cons: in the bully who is his perpetual one-night stand, in the best friend who betrayed him, in the brilliant and mysterious boy who walked into the wrong class.

Amazing

It covered so many different topics and challenges, plus the development of characters all while getting a few laughs from me aswell. The ending had me on the edge of my seat, and I don’t think it could have ended any differently. I recommend this book to absolutely anyone who I think would like it.

My favorite book of all time!

When I picked up this book it was in my teachers bookshelf in eighth grade I flipped through it trying to make myself seem busy next thing you know the words encapsulated me and I couldn’t stop reading it going into my senior year of high school this is by far my favorite book I’ve ever read I saw someone write that they never thought a sci-fi book would end up being their favorite book and I can completely agree I never thought a sci-fi book wouldn’t end up being something that left a mark in my brain and on my heart!

Unexplainably amazing!!

Read this book in a little over a week (it's not long, just a single mom working full-time.) This book is every teen. It is intoxicating and addictive! You'll be pulled in from the first line. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel EVERYTHING!

I love this book to the bottom of my heart <3

Just to put this out there, yes I did first learn about this book from TikTok and yes I did buy the book abruptly (and reasonably) after reading only the first chapter (it was very addicting). Speaking of the first chapter, it did set my standards quite high and it was definitely different from how I expected the story to be. BUT NEVERTHELESS, read this book and you will not regret it ;) Mind you, I lost my love in reading a while ago and haven't read anything for months before I encountered We Are The Ants. I've tried several books to bring back my interest but NONE was I able to read past the second chapter (all of them were actually really good books that I'll definitely pick up soon but yk, wasn't enough to bring back my interest). I was not able to put down this book and finished it in a week (y'all fast readers out there will probably be able to finish in two or three days...). It is so incredibly written, and you really get to love every single character (the characters + character development is *chef's kiss*). I 100% relate to all other 5-star ratings and they all speak truly of this book so need I say more. Please, please, please give this book a chance even if the story may not match your expectations of the first chapter. Happy reading besties <3

If I could give more than 5, I would

When I found this book in my school library, read the synopsis, I thought "This sounds like a ridiculous book." But I thought I'd give it a try (it was the mention of Jesse's suicide that made me have to see what it was) A 450 page book usually takes me a week at least to read, usually longer. I read it in two days. All I can say is-- A M A Z I N G The characters are real and complicated, the situations are intriguing and gut wrenching. I know it's cliche but I really did laugh and cry with Henry. One hundred percent on my top ten books list!!!
