"Swept me away from the very first page . . . Truly magical". — Genevieve Gornichec, bestselling author of The Witch's Heart, on A River Enchanted in the stunning conclusion to the 1 internationally bestselling Elements of Cadence duology that began with A River Enchanted, A Fire Endless finds the tenuous balance between the human and faery realm threatened by Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, whose defeat may require Jack, Adaira, Torin, and Sidra to pay the ultimate price. East and West. Humans and Spirits. Breccans and Tamerlaines. The Isle of Cadence has always held itself and its residents in a tenuous balance. But now Bane, the spirit of the North Wind, has pushed everyone and everything in his path off-kilter in a bid to claim dominion over human and spirit alike. In the East, a sickness is spreading through the orchards, affecting the people of the Tamerlaine clan. As their healer, Sidra desperately searches for a cure while her husband Torin, the clan's new leader, attempts to draw answers from the spirits. But humans were never meant to walk for long amongst the elementals, and the deeper he strays into their realm, the further lost he and the clan become. In the West, Adaira finds it hard to adjust to the more brutal way of life that the Breccans embrace. Both the clan and the spirits suffer beneath Bane's command, whose growing power can be felt in every gust.

A Struggle

The publisher had sent me book 1, which I absolutely adored, so even though I'm not a fan of hardcovers, as they are difficult to hold, I knew I couldn't wait for them to (finally) release a paperback of the second book in the duology. And I confess that it took me much too long to finish this once I finally started it. My biggest complaint with this is that, in some ways, there is a lack of character growth. Married couples are lying to each other or withholding information, and it was so utterly juvenile I felt like I was reading poorly written YA. I can't take grown adults seriously when they withhold information from their partners. And it irked me enough that it took me two weeks to read this when the previous book was a one-sit read. I recently read Divine Rivals, which was utterly exciting. So when I look at that and A River Enchanted, I guess I had high expectations. I hate comparing an author's work to their other work, but this one felt flat. It all seemed so mundane until the last 1/4 of the book. The long-running dispute between the clans didn't really come to a head. If anything, the West had more to fear out of their own people than those of the East. I enjoyed this one, just not as much as I had hoped.

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Voyager!

Thank you Netgalley and Harper Voyager for allowing me to read and review this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. "Let our names be the sword in your hand. Let us be your shield and your armor. Fight for us tonight." I may be a little biased because Rebecca Ross is one of my favorite authors but A Fire Endless is one of the most beautifully written sequels I've read in a long time. A Fire Endless continues the ongoing fight between the Breccans and the Tamberlaines. A month has passed since the ending of the first book and there's a storm brewing on the horizon. "If I am weak for wanting you, then let me embrace that weakness and make it my strength." I think I highlighted over eighty percent of the book. The way Rebecca Ross weaves words is impeccable and awe-inspiring. One of my favorite things about the way Ross writes is how she literally holds your heart in the palm of her hands and makes you care immensely for her characters. A Fire Endless made me feel so many different emotions: anticipation, anxiety, grief, and compassion. ".... if I were to go on living as I had been in the east without you, I would soon be worn down to nothing but dust." I loved the world-building of the west and reading about the Breccans customs. The development between Adaira and her mother is so realistic and I loved how they, little by little, learned to trust the other. I felt like A River Enchanted had a slower pace due to introductions and world-building but A Fire Endless kicked it up a notch. Each point of view had me on the edge of my seat. The pacing was so on point and I didn't want to stop reading. Not want, but a need to find out what was going to happen next to these characters. We were introduced to a couple of new characters and I love Kaye and Ash. I know Ash doesn't have very many scenes but they were so impactful I wanted to read more about him. Kaye is such a great addition to the story and the development of the original characters. I could have read so much more about her as well. "For once, she wasn't afraid to surrender those pieces of herself, to let them twine with Jack. She let them all go because he was her home, her shelter. Her endless fire, burning through the dark." The Elements of Cadence duology is an intricate and gorgeously written tale of well-developed characters, fantastic world-building, and heart-rending scenes. I'm in love with the world of Cadence and I hope Rebecca Ross will write another story, maybe featuring Kaye as a main character, in the future. 5 stars

I think this was even better than the first!

A Fire Endless was an absolutely stunning conclusion to the story that started with A River Enchanted! Honestly, I think this was even better than the first. This series is so, so lovely. It has the same comfort of a warm hug and magical cosiness of a daydream, and the atmosphere, the vibe of this story is immaculate and just as strong as it was in the first book. The fairytale-esque vibes with the lure of scottish charm is just so cosy and lush! The mysterious island of cadence, the resolution to an age-old feud between clans, and exploring the realm of spirits create a very tangible and well structured world. The two main characters, as in the first book, I loved them very much, and even if in A Fire Endless they remain separate for part of the book, they are still fantastic, well-characterized characters and their bond is something unique and wonderful! All the other characters are also very well written, they are flawed and very human and I loved their presence in the book! Speaking of romance, I really liked the relationship between Jack and Adaira, and also the writing and the vibes are so romantic that it seems to be in a fairy tale. In a nutshell, A Fire Endless is an exquisite and perfect end to the Elements of Cadence duology. Rebecca Ross's writing is magnificent and so are the characters she brings to life! Highly recommended if you love stories with a hint of mystery, a fairytale setting and vivid, human characters! A Fire Endless is out today! Don't miss it!

kept me enthralled from start to finish

A Fire Endless by Rebecca Ross is the final book in her wonderful Elements of Cadence duology. I have become a fan of Rebecca Ross’s wonderful fantasy novels. A Fire Endless picks up where the first book left off. Adaira is now in the West, trying to adjust to a more difficult life, as well as learn more about her true family (Breccans), her mother, Innes being the laird of the West and her father David. She misses her husband, Jack, who was left in the East, since being a bard, he cannot play music in the West. In the East, Jack misses Adaira, but is determined to use his harp, to sing to the spirits, who suffer from King Bane’s nasty powers, bringing severe sickness to crops and people. The blight continues to grow, and Sidra, the healer in Tamerlaine, becomes infected, trying desperately to find a cure. Torin, the Laird of the East, finds himself approached by a spirit, who needs him to solve a puzzle, which would help save the land. He is then stuck in the spirit realm, trying to search for the clues, to free himself, and stop the blight; with him being unable to see anyone in the mortal world, including his wife, Sidra and daughter, Maisie.  Adaira slowly begins to learn more about her parents, and the world within the Breccan clan; but she also tries to change the way things are being done, especially the culling. In a short time, Jack, will decide to join Adaira in the West, since he wants to be with his wife, and willing to give up his music. It was a dangerous journey for Jack, as some evil Breccans threatened his life, with Adaira coming to his rescue. Very exciting. I loved Jack and Adaira together, as they were a fantastic couple. With both the East and West beginning to suffer the terrible consequences of Bane’s rule, they will need to find a way to bring both sides together, as well as the spirits, who also suffer from Bane’s horror. Each of them (Adaira, Jack, Sidra and Torin) have their own difficult arcs, as we spend time with each of them in their compelling journeys. Jack’s gift of music will bring Bane to destroy the spirits, more blight and stop the Bard. Will Jack survive? What follows was an amazing, fantastic adventure in a world filled with magic, spirits, enemies, betrayals and romance. There are some surprising twists, that will eventually force the two clans to join together to save the Isle of Cadenc. Adaira, continues to be a fantastic heroine, as she was strong independent, determined, savvy and fierce. I loved Jack, Sidra and Torin, who played major parts in this story.  A Fire Endless was a wonderful, captivating, unique story filled with spirits, magic and folklore. To say too much more would ruin it for you, as you really do need to read this fantastic finale. Rebecca Ross once again gives us a wonderful fantasy, with great characters and keeping me enthralled from start to finish. If you have not read this duology, I suggest you start with A River Enchanted, then read A Fire Endless.

The Perfect Cozy Fantasy Read

Welcome back to the lush, whimsical world of Cadence, where folklore and magic reign. As usual, Rebecca Ross didn't disappoint. She crafted an enchanting, beautiful story full of heart. At its core, this duology is about love and embracing yourself for everything you are and embracing your loved ones for all their flaws. This story is about honor and learning to overcome pride and tradition in order to create a better future. This book blew me away. I wasn’t sure what to expect after the end of A River Enchanted. There was so much we didn’t know about the West. Let me tell you, Rebecca Ross chose the perfect direction for this story. Each character went on their own journey and grew tremendously before coming back together at the end. I loved learning about the different spirits of the Isle. It was fun comparing the spirits from the West to the ones in the East. I could read about the Isle of Cadence forever, honestly. If you’re a fan of whimsical, cozy fantasy stories with romance, then this duology is perfect for you.

AMAZING

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a requested advance copy for review. All opinions are my own. This was absolutely perfect. Hauntingly beautiful, magical, evocative, heartbreaking and heartwarming. It was a wonderful conclusion to the duology that was well-earned. I’m not even sure I have words to describe the lyrical writing and the emotional impact of the story. The journeys, struggles, and hard choices that Jack, Adaira, Sidra, and Torin all must go through were heartbreaking but ultimately triumphant. Our couples are separated during large sections of the book, so their reunions and time together were that much sweeter and poignant. Honestly, just do yourself a favor and read these books; they are amazing!
