Heart Warming and Heart Wrenching

Come Back To Me is a young adult military romance novel. It takes place in California when Jessa’s brother, Riley, and her brother's best friend, Kit, are on leave from the army. With only two months at home a secret romance sparks between Kit and Jessa. Making the most of their short time together they spent many nights and stolen moments together. It's all too good to be true though because before they know it, Riley and Kit are flying overseas for redeployment and only one will return. Mila Gray tells this heart breaking story while switching from Jessa’s and Kits perspective allowing the reader to get a sense of each character's views and feelings. She starts the story letting the reader know that either Kit or Riley will pass away overseas. This tragic opening and storytelling method allows the reader to root for the young romance to blossom and, as the title suggests, hope for Kit to come back to Jessa. This beautiful story is both heartwarming and heart wrenching. The characters were very relatable and their reactions to events made them even more credible. The way Mila Gray shows Jessa’s dad’s struggles with PTSD and her moms struggles dealing with her dad is another layer to the story and another chance for the readers to root for a positive outcome. The returning boy's struggles after dealing with the loss of his friend add another conflict to the story and help the reader understand why Jessa’s dad can be so aggressive. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to someone. It was such a good read and I had trouble putting it down.
