From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we're drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love Book One of The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy Dark Witch With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends. Ireland. County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors' blood and magic have flowed through generations and where her destiny awaits. Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan's directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O'Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives. When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he's three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package. Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona's family tree and must be defeated.

Good

This author is slowly becoming one of my new favorites. Also love that cover. I wasn't sure about the main character at first, but the more I read the more I started to like her a bit more. I do like the other characters, like Boyle, Branna, Connor, Fin. Pacing and the setting was good too. Good start and looking forward to reading more from this author.

Love these magical witchcraft HEA trilogies

I’m a big fan of the magical romance trilogy that Nora Roberts is so good at. I’ve read most of them, and even if some of the themes and patterns are recycled, that’s really what we’re looking for in a romance. We want that HEA. Add in the themes of witchcraft, Ireland, talking to animals, hereditary powers, gardening…well. I really enjoy them. Roberts has a way of reminding you that there’s magic all around us, even if it doesn’t take the form of her main characters learning how to light a candle flame with their powers. :D The protagonist in this first book of the trilogy is an open book. She talks a LOT when she’s nervous and the people she meets in Ireland (she’s from America) don’t judge her for that, so that’s nice. She’s got a pretty relatable backstory, too, with parents who were pretty indifferent to her existence. I quite liked that level of detail. Her love interest isn’t fleshed out much at all. He’s gruff and doesn’t like “girly” things like braiding a male horse’s mane, but he’s sweet to the protagonist. I just don’t know much else about him, aside from how loyal he is to his lifelong friends (which is kind of enough, cause I kept reading!). I also enjoyed the first few chapters, which take place in the past and give us a good overview of the lore so that we understand what’s up when it’s time to join our protagonist for her journey. I’d recommend this book to anyone who’s enjoyed a good HEA in the typical romance format, with some good witches and evil legendary forces to fight against.
