Eight Perfect Murders by Peter Swanson
Product details
Web ID: 12620609A book lovers dream
This is absolutely a thriller and mystery lovers dream. There are so many excellent nods to infamous book murders and just book loving in general. The audiobook was enjoyable, but I do wish I had physically read this book. That being said, it was still a quick listen and fun!

More twists than a bag of pretzels
I had read only one of the author's books, and I loved it, so I tried this one. What a ride! The narrator, Malcolm, is the co-owner of a book shop specializing in murder mysteries. He has written a blog listing eight perfect murders by different authors. The murders in these books seem to correlate with some relatively recent murders that have occurred locally. What comes next is a rollercoaster ride of highs, lows, twists, and turns. I was desperate to know what comes next. One of the best things about it is that it is not only creepy but also hilarious at times. The dialogue is amazing, and the ending is superb. The book would make a great movie in the film noir genre. I will be reading several more of Peter Swanson's books.

Page-turner!
A list on a blog that Malcolm Kershaw made over a decade ago has now come back to haunt him in the shape of an FBI agent standing in his bookshop. Gwen Shaw has informed Malcolm that she believes there is someone out there using a blog post from his bookshop's website referencing eight perfect, unsolvable murders to commit them in real life. Malcolm had chosen these crimes from books written by the genre's most classic storytellers and explained how these perfect murders were carried out. Did he create a how-to for a madman? The agent asks Malcolm to look over a few open cases to see if he can find connections to his list and as Mal digs in he discovers that the killer might be closer to him than he expected. The feeling of being watched, observed and hunted follows Mal as he tries to help Agent Shaw unravel the mystery of how all of these murders are connected. As long as the killer doesn't catch them first. "Eight Perfect Murders" is the second book I've read by Peter Swanson. I was hooked right away with the concept and couldn't put it down. (I read this in one day.) Though I found the ending to be a little dialed in I really enjoyed "Eight Perfect Murders" and would recommend giving it a TBR add along with suggestion to check out Swanson's other titles if you are a fan of this genre.

It was ok
Not sure what to think about this book. It's not in my normal reading tastes. I was trying to branch out and try something new. I really wanted to like it and it was ok, but not what I was expecting. I guess I was expecting more suspense, more mystery. I felt like most of book rambled and I figured out the ending before I was half way through the book. There was one little catch at the end I didn't expect, so that was good. I did have to force myself to finish it. It just wasn't holding my attention the way other murder mystery/suspense had. I was excited about the book lists he included, but was extremely disappointed when he gave away almost all of the endings in each book. I expected to have spoilers on a couple of the books as the murder already competed a couple of them, but a majority of them. Now, I don't want to even try the list he gave.

What a thriller!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! It was gripping from beginning to end. However, I didn't realize this novel changed titles. I just purchased it from a used book site not too long ago, and my copy is titled "Rules for Perfect Murders".

Kind of shocked me
I thought this book was juicy and packed full of good twists and shocks. What's funny is when I started it they mention "The Secret History" and that book was on my TBR so I had to stop reading it and read that book first so it wouldn't ruin that book for me. Haha! I really enjoyed this book! I thought the author did wonderfully on giving you all sorts of jaw dropping moments. The people in the book aren't what you're expecting at all. The only thing I didn't care for in this would be that he sort of repeated himself multiple times in terms of describing the eight different novel murders that made his list. I felt he would go into detail what each murder was about and then the very next chapter he would just repeat the same thing. Some parts I felt like I just read a few pages back. That's the only downfall. But overall, a wonderful read.

Many famous mysteries mentioned
This book was listed on many best books lists that I decided to pick it up. It is a mystery that references many other famous mystery books and I felt that I would enjoy that, however I hadn't read many of the books and wished that there weren't so many spoilers. The mystery did keep me guessing who the guilty party was, and I was surprised by the ending.
