This was my first book by this author. This was a friends to lovers book that was also a woman who was finding herself. Liv was the type of woman that was always doing for others. A friends group that made a pact a long time ago that they would not date one another, but things change on vacation. I enjoyed the banter within this book along with the friendships that came with it. What drew me in was the cover of this book and how beautiful it was and I stayed for a pretty good story

Cute friends-to-lovers
Liv Bakersfield keeps her life strictly inside the boundaries she creates for herself to feel safe after an uncertain childhood, following the advice of various magazines and gurus. Yet when her job, where she is overworked and underpaid, is about to make her miss a trip with her friends to South Africa, she decides to take a chance. She quits her job and gets a last-minute flight to join her friends, the one solid thing in her life. There, she learns to loosen up while trying to contain her crush on the emotionally unavailable Lucas Deiss. When she returns home, Liv discovers that she literally has nothing – everything has been stoled from her flat; her bank account is empty, and her cat is missing. Deiss welcomes Liv into his home while she gets back on her feet, and Liv takes the time to figure out what she’s willing to go for in life. I loved this romcom! Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, so I couldn’t resist requesting this book. I loved that their friend group remained close even after college, even if I questioned why they were friends with Simone. I recommend checking this book out when you want a heartwarming read and/or a chance to “travel” to South Africa by book. Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this book.

Excellent
I loved this book so much!! I loved Lacie’s debut The Layover last year and I think I love this one even more! It’s a friends to lovers romance between two members of a long-standing five-member friend group, and I loved the friendships just as much as the romance. The main character is going through a lot of life changes realizing doing what she’s “supposed to do” isn’t making her happy or fulfilled and I loved going on that journey with her! Highly recommend!

It was fine
Deiss, you are a book boyfriend if I've ever known one. Definitely the male MC that we all know and love. Brooding, likes music, hot, and a little mysterious...sounds like a sure thing! Liz, I mean Liv, you were a little boring. EEK. I think your character was supposed to have a full self discovery in these pages and I'll admit, you came far, but I just didn't care? Phoebe, one of the friends had such a great sense of humor and I loved her presence in the story! I wanted to love this book and I did for about 50% of it...30-50% and 65-95% is where it's at. The focus on this friendship group was so good, soooo good, but Simone messed up big time and I can't image forgiving so quickly after that betrayal. Lastly, the ending...so impulsive. Why? Anyways, read The Layover...it's amazing.

Cute friends to lovers summer read
This was a cute friends to lovers story. A group of friends stay close after college as they navigate the ups and downs of life. The friends come various backgrounds giving them all different perspectives on relationships, family and career aspirations. Liv is the central character who is very methodical. She has set routines and plans in place for every aspect of her life. She finds herself at a crossroads with her career and living situation. After making a spontaneous decision to join her friends on vacation Liv finds herself trying new things and getting out of her comfort zone. She finds herself spending more time with Deiss ,a member of the friend group and sees him in a different light. This story is about friendships, finding yourself and of course love. There was great chemistry between the characters and some drama that made me angry!! Overall a great beach read , perfect for the season. We have selected it as our contemporary romance book club pick for our store in August. 3.5

Wonderful Setting!
Four and a Half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒ From the Jump by Lacie Waldon is a slow-burn romance partly set in Africa and California. I just loved the long-lasting friendships in this book and the romance and setting. Liv Bakersfield has a nice life, great friends, and a great job. But something is missing as she still feels lonely. One day at work, after another stressful day, she decides to say no, and she leaves her job to join her college friends on a vacation in South Africa. But, instead of a relaxing vacation, her time with her college friends Phoebe, Simone, Diess, and Mac, becomes more complicated. Especially her relationship with Lucas Diess. The dynamic of all five friends starts to change, and Liv is afraid that the change could break the friend group up for good. I really enjoyed the friendships in this book. I was a bit reminded of the TV show “Friends” while reading this. The way these five people remained friends for all those years and kept in touch and took vacations together was lovely to read about. Of course, there was some dysfunction, and that made the book more interesting. The romance was a very slow burn, but very satisfying when it finally worked out for them. I also enjoyed watching Liv grow and change and step out of her comfort zone. She was stuck in a rut, and she needed to learn to enjoy life and do more of what she wanted and less of what she should do. Friend groups have to grow and change as individuals grow older, and this group had to change too. The book is more about friends and growing up than romance, but it sure was a good romance too. I highly recommend From the Jump to anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction and romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

So much fun!
Liv says yes to everyone but herself. She is trying to fit into a perfect mold and it's eating away at her. Her best friends from college go on adventures and she can never come because she is always saying yes to work because they need her. When her friends take a trip to Africa without her, she vows this is the last time. She is done not going on adventures and she is saying yes to herself. Her best friends are her family. She would do anything for them and she loves their tight knit group. She decides to book a flight to Africa a day after her friends leave and when she shows up nothing goes right but everything falls into place. Lucas, her emotionally unavailable friend, could just be more. After 11 years, hiding secrets and waiting around, Lucas finds a way to convince Liv to take a chance on them, but will this destroy their group? What happens when they inevitably end because Lucas is not one to settle down. Things are not always as they seem though and friendships are tested when secrets emerge. I really liked Lucas, he was a great part of this book, waiting around for Liv all these years. I honestly just wish he wasn't the way he was WHILE waiting for her, but I definitely have more issues with this than most. I also loved the tight knit made family and the side romance with Mac and Phoebe. When things went down within the group though, I really felt like they didn't talk enough and a bunch of things were just brushed under the rug without anything being resolved.
