Good Frosty Fun
Is it possible for a murder mystery to be, well, adorable? FROZEN DETECTIVE is the second Piper and Porter mystery from bestselling, Agatha Award-winning writer, Amanda Flower, and it glides to its surprising conclusion with the ease of a pro skier on the well-groomed ski slopes of the novel's posh (fictitious) Golden Peak Lodge. Cecily Madd, the latest client of private detectives Darby Piper and Tate Porter, hires the pair to find out who has been sending threatening letters to her wealthy husband, Dr. Garrett Madd. Darby and Tate, posing as a couple, join the Madds as their guests at a week-long gathering for friends, clients, and vendors vying to introduce their products to Garrett for his skin care company. The morning after Garrett Madd makes a public announcement rocking the future of the company--and surprisingly--his wife's, he's shot with an arrow that kills him. Though the mystery takes place in small town New York, the lodge setting gives it an intriguing British house party vibe, where all the characters are snowed in, with a murderer hiding in their midst. Along with anyone connected with MaddlyCare, the suspects include an unexpected family member, and plenty of locals involved with Golden Peak Lodge, in which hometown girl Cecily has a large financial interest. The real charm of FROZEN DETECTIVE lies in the quirky personality of Darby Piper, cat rescuer, wearer of gumball purple snowsuits, reluctant skier, smart businesswoman, and closet romantic. Her ex of one year, Austin, is the chief cop in town. He's not quite over her, and she has an obvious fondness for him. There's a faded but powerful electricity between them, but then there's also her growing affection for Tate for her to reckon with. Tate is ex-Army, very handsome, a bit of a klutz, and a natural detective, They are off to a good beginning, turning into a solid, working team. It will be interesting to see how this triangle plays out in the series, Darby seems to be just awakening to the possibilities of her attraction to Tate. The solution to the mystery of Garrett Madd's murder is deliciously twisty. Just when I thought I had it figured out, there were more surprises. That's my favorite kind of ending. Looking forward to the next adventures of Piper and Porter. Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for an advance listen to the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A Great Mystery
I am so happy I had the opportunity to read and review Frozen Detective by Amanda Flowers because I'm familiar with the characters and I couldn't wait to start reading this book and I must say it didn't disappoint. Darby Piper and new partner Tate now own a detective agency that they inherited from Tate's aunt who sadly passed away. They have been hired by a long time friend of Tate's. She and her husband own a successful skin care line. She needs help because someone has been sending her husband threatening letters and it's up to Darby and Tate to find out who it is before it's too late. Anyone who loves a good mystery will enjoy this book.

Second in series eclipsed the first
Frozen Detective by Amanda Flower is the second in the Piper and Porter series and, in my opinion, the best so far. Darby finds herself embroiled in an investigation regarding the harassment of a noted physician with little information and soon winds up in the middle of a murder investigation with the help of her new partner. The dialog was well written, but the description of a first time ski lesson really needed to be better researched. Sadly, I was also disappointed with the lack of ability to describe a diverse character as well as the presence of only one diverse individual (in a state with a lot of diversity no less). Would really love to see this progress a bit if there is a 3rd installment. Thank you to Hallmark Publishing and Eunice Shin for allowing me to review an advanced copy!

Wonderful Read
Darby Piper and her new partner Tate Porter have been asked by a wealthy doctor to go under cover to figure out who is leaving him threatening messages. They will be staying a week at a gorgeous ski village so they can mingle among the doctors guest in hopes of figuring out just where the threats are coming from. When a murder occurs the two turn to the mystery behind the death. As they come upon clue after clue it becomes apparent that not everyone was happy with the deceased and quite a few held a grudge. Daddy's ex who is a cop thinks they are barking up the wrong tree and isn't willing to help. The two continue to dig but will something bad happen to them before they find the truth?

Very entertaining
Frozen Detective is book #2 in the Piper and Porter Mysteries series by Amanda Flower. Darby and Tate take on a case that takes them undercover on a case on New Year’s Eve at a luxury ski resort. This case takes an interesting twist. I really like Darby and Tate. There was a time where there was an issue between them and instead of keeping their feelings quiet, the discussed their concerns with each other. There were humorous moments, especially regarding Darby’s ski suit. As expected when the victim is not well liked, there were many suspects which kept the investigation interesting. I was very surprised at the ending. Thank you to the author, Hallmark Publishing, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
