Easy setup

easily transferred data from Edge 1030. Solar works great. Only drawback is the brightness of the display. Sometimes very hard to see.

Reliable and easy to use

Reliable and easy to use. Don’t leave on your back bumper or place on a tire after a ride though… I’m on my third. Still won’t get anything else though!

Garmin excellence

There is alot packed into the 1040 solar that will take a new user awhile to figure out. Read the manual! I know it is new and you want to check it out. But, read the manual. Then watch YouTube videos on tips and customization ideas from Pro riders. Then setup and enjoy! One final note, get a Garmin Varia it will save your life if you ride on the streets anywhere. It alerts you early enough to at least look behind you or to get out of the way of people who dont understand the 3 foot law.

Excellent Battery Life

Has most of Garmin’s features (Edge 1050 has more but nothing I need) are outstanding. Not difficult to program data points on unit, if not, use Garmin Connect app on iPhone. Love the Varia interface for enhanced safety. Solar allows me to go on extended rides without being concerned.

Great battery life and solar charging works well! The screen appears comically huge compared to my previous 830, but it's very nice and you quickly get used to either more data, or much larger numbers depending on your data preferences.

Brilliant screen, but less stable

This replaced my older 530 that was 100% stable and reliable but its screen started to peel off. The 1040 screen is brilliant and easy to see at all lighting conditions. However, it is not as stable and got stuck and required hard reset multiple times causing me to loose ride recordings. For me, this is a great disappointment.
