From the New York Times best-selling author of The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires comes a hilarious and terrifying haunted house story in a thoroughly contemporary setting: a furniture superstore. Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking. To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they'll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.

Horror and gore with character development

A quick horror read with lots of suspense and gore. I enjoyed the character development throughout the story. Hendrix describes scenes painfully well. I'm not usually a big horror book fan, but I enjoyed it! Also loved the physical copy of this book. It looks so much like a magazine, and it's so fun!

Not great

Loved the premise, but the actual horror has very little to do with the actual store.

This NEEDS to be a movie

Not going to fail to mention the absolute wonderful cover design and detail that went into this book as a first starter, props to the design team. Anyway! Onto the book. This book is so incredibly well done, and makes it even better when you read and you can visually see what’s happening in the most—cinematic detail. That’s the best way I can describe it as I was reading. I felt like my eyes were the lenses of the camera; the book almost makes you feel like you’re reading about a found footage film. And knowing that the author has a background in critiquing films, just absolutely made sense. He knows horror and he has written it well. I hope that when the adaptation comes around that it’ll be just as good.

The Scariest Sale of them all

Work is fun, they said. It will be double the pay he said. Amy was asked to work a double to investigate strange happenings in the store. Is it just teens sneaking in and having fun or is there something more sinister happening going on? Spend the night in Orsk to find out it won’t be disappointing.

Adorable and Spooky!

I think everyone's being a tad harsh about this book. After years of not reading a single novel I picked this out and read it in 3 hours! I loved it. Just a goofy typical haunted house, yes, but every story is different in it's own way. Grady Hendrix got me back into reading!!!

very descriptive horror

This is quite an unusual horror book. Young adults are working in an Ikea-like big box store in Ohio. Weird things start to happen at night so three of the employees are asked to stay overnight to find out what is going on. The results are terrifying and creepy, with very descriptive passages making the horror come alive. This author is quite good at creating scary scenes.

Get the Physical paperback version!

Loved that the physical book mimics a catalog, just that much fun to read. Who doesn't love an awesome read based on a Haunted furniture store! Win win!
