Not political, just an engaging story.

I was first introduced to Tyrus on Gutfeld!, one of the 2 shows I try to watch every weekday, not for the politics, for the humor of the situation the county is in. Tyrus shows intelligence and common sense in his analysis of what is happening. His book is like that. He gives his background, while respecting the privacy of people in his life, which is hard. He experienced some racism but does not make that the focus of his story. Rather than making his memoir a pity-party, he tells how his adversity made him better, made him want to achieve more. This was an engrossing read, I couldn't put it down. The good, bad, sad and ugly - be doesn't sugar coat his actions, doesn't make excuses, be owns his actions. He gives respect and credit where due which is refreshing. If anything, his story made me like and respect him even more. A great read and worth the time and price.

worthy read

If you are ready to read a book that will put you at your kitchen table chatting with Tyrus go for it. This has been written with the same honest and direct style that anyone who follows this man has come to expect. Reading this will leave you with a deeper knowledge of the life events that went into forming a man who is solid. It is direct and heartfelt. You will find no bitterness, no excuses, just the facts. No matter what events came at him Tyrus always found a way to accept and move on and carry the lessons learned. If I was to look for an example for my grandson to look up to and emulate it would be this man. Take a day or two and spend the time at the kitchen table with this amazing, smart, engaging man Tyrus.

Interesting Stories

I listened to the audiobook and it was read by the author. I think that made the book better because it felt more like him telling you a series of stories about his life. At times that approach as a series of stories was good, but other times it wasn’t. Sometimes that approach made me feel too distant from the story, so I didn’t feel like I could judge for myself about the people and the situation. Sometimes it was too much telling and not enough showing. I had no clue that he was on Fox until after I agreed to listen to the book. So I was a little concerned about the amount of political opinion that would creep into the book, but he did a good job focusing on his life story. There were a few times there was political opinion, but not much. Overall it was an interesting series of stories, but there was too much telling and not enough showing. Thanks to NetGalley and Post Hill Press for the opportunity to review the audiobook.

Not Woke Not Racist Just Truth

This man has told the story of thousands of people. I am in my 70's, Caucasian, and because my family was poor in many ways not just money, I found my own way. He speaks truth not only in this book but any time I catch him in an interview. He uses intelligence to make his way. I personally had a strong faith that got me through. I think Tyrus had his angel and still does. Thanks for writing this book which has given me hope we can once more be a united America. Follow this man and you will find greatness. I am a high school graduate couldn't afford college.

Highly recommend

Love Tyrus and love his book. Tyrus is just Tyrus. What you see is what you get. Says what he means and means what he says. Always look forward to what he has to say it always makes sense. Too bad we don’t have more people like him. It shows you may not be able to control your childhood but can control your adulthood.

It's a great read written by an exceptional man!

Tyrus, (aka George), expresses well what a complex and tumultuous life he had and still managed to overcome the many pitfalls to become a successful and honorable man despite the different paths he took getting to where he is! I appreciate the effort he put into opening up much of his private life to teach the rest of us that life doesn't necessarily determine who you become!

True story, well told

It took a lot of strength to have lived the life that Tyrus has up to this point. He tells his story clearly, truthfully, and with passion. He is quite a human being and should be an inspiration to generations to come. A real American life, well-lived, and well told.
