easy to assemble and sturdy
This bookcase is really easy to assemble. It's lightweight but sturdy and it's bigger than I expected. I use this bookcase in place of my night stand by my bed. and I'm loving it. :) I only give it 4 star because I feel like the quality of the material could be better. But overall, I am happy with the product.
Will Last A Lifetime
The Lara Bookcase is absolutely gorgeous! This is a furniture piece that I know is going to last me a really long time. The design is simple but modern and trendy. The wood is sturdy and has a beautiful soft finish to it which I truly appreciate because it will be very easy to clean and keep polished. The legs have integrated pads which keeps the bookcase from scratching my wood floor [This is a HUGE plus]. Additionally, included with the purchase of the bookcase is the hardware to secure the bookcase to the wall [Furniture Safety Restraint] to keep from tipping over. To some people this may be no big deal but as a parent to a toddler this is a HUGE deal and is greatly appreciated. In regards to building the bookcase: I worked alone in putting this together. It was literally a stroll in the park. I have to say putting this together is fool-proof. The pieces are visibly labeled and instructions were clear and concise. No fuzz or confusion. The only tool I need which was not included was a screwdriver. Everything was pleasant and I actually really enjoyed putting this together. And finally, in regards to its capacity to hold books: The bookcase is so sturdy and strong that it has managed to hold all sizes of books. Down from my simple pocket sized novels to some of my larger and longer books. This is truly a beautiful piece that makes me happy to look at. Utility meets style and this is one piece that I'm sure I will be able to move around when reorganizing my home and not have to worry about it getting flimsy or falling apart. I would reccomend this, especially for anyone is a smaller home. It is great.
Very Nice Shelf unit.
I was a little nervous about this one. So many times when you order furniture online, it fails to meet your expectations when you receive it. This one is very sturdy, and ascetically pleasing. We are using it in our dining room and it stores our cooking appliances, crock pots, bread maker, waffle maker, panini press and other counter top space hogs. It is neutral in color and I can see it being used in various ways. I say a very nice find. Thanks!
Sturdy and Nice Details
This is a nice sturdy bookcase, that can be used for other things as well. It has a good weight and will work perfectly in my solarium to accommodate books as well as plants. Easy to assemble.
Lovely Bookcase
Lara Bookcase Quick Ship I received this item in exchange for my honest review. First off, this arrived very quickly! So when they put Quick Ship in the title, they mean it! I had no idea what color this bookcase was going to be in, but I was very happy when I opened the box to see that it was in the color: Oak. I will point out that the one I received is not as dark as the one pictured on Macy’s website, but since this this made of real wood (Elm wood), shades will vary. I was impressed with how very well packaged the pieces were… lots of styrofoam and bubble-wrap. Not a single piece was damaged in the slighted bit. Now, I’m not the kind of person who assembles any kind of furniture, I leave that up to my husband. But as I unpacked it and saw that there were only 7 pieces, I figured it should be simple enough for me to handle. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. It comes with everything you need, except a Philips screw driver (but I will get to that a bit later). So the 7 pieces are: the 2 sides of the bookcase, 3 shelves, and the back comes in 2 big pieces. Attaching the sides and the shelves together was extremely easy. You attach them with Allen bolts and washers, and tighten them with the Allen key it comes with. Everything lines up perfectly, it’s really something you can’t get wrong. When it came to attaching the the 2 back pieces though, that was another story… No where does it explain in the instruction which side the 2 back pieces should go on. That is something you have to figure out yourself, which isn’t difficult since you only have 2 options. But the challenge was actually attaching the back pieces with screws. There are pre-made holes on the back of the back pieces, so you know where each screw goes and can blend in with the back so none sick out. Unfortunately, the back pieces do not line up perfectly with the shelves and the sides. There were a few times I had to hold one part with my hand very tightly in order to keep the back lined up with the part it needed to be attached to. Definitely would have been easier with another person. Then to make things more difficult (for myself) I couldn’t find an attachment to our power drill, so I had to use a screw driver for each screw… there are 12. Again, I’m not the kind of person to assemble any kind of furniture, but I was determined to finish this thing and do it the best I could. My only real annoyance when it came to assembling this bookcase, was the back pieces. But it wasn’t having to use the screws, it was the fact that the bottom inner-corner, on both pieces were made slightly crooked (one was too low and the other was too high). No matter what I did, I could not make them line up with the bottom shelf, yet the very ends of those pieces lined up just fine. I ended up having to just screw them in, and thankfully that part faces the wall and is on the very bottom. Once I was completely done, I realized that it doesn’t matter how you screw in the back pieces… they face the wall, and books or whatever else you put on the bookcase will be in front of it anyway. So it does not effect the use of the bookcase, itself. Once I turned it upright, I was very happy that the bookcase didn’t wobble on our hardwood floor, and that the shelves were perfectly leveled. It’s also easy to pick up and move it to where you want. In addition, the bookcase also comes with an Anti-Tip Kit, which I did not bother to use. The dimensions are: 33.5"W x 13.5"D x 35.6"H (as stated on Macy’s website). Overall, I love the look and feel of the bookcase. As a book-lover, I’m very pleased with amount of room I have just for books alone and the how they look displayed on this lovely bookcase. I also think it’s made of very good quality, however, I will say that the instructions could use some slight improvement. Also, the back pieces could be manufactured a bit better so that they line up just as perfect as the sides and shelves, which will make it easier when assembling.
