Duplicates - Lots and Lots of Duplicates

When we first got the lab set, we were excited and my 3.5 year old loves them. After we ran out of the initial ones, I jumped on here to order 3 more sets for her. All three sets had the EXACT same creatures. While I understand that duplicates will happen, clearly the same creatures are always packaged together. And in our case, we got three of the exact same packages. I'm going to take a chance and order some more from elsewhere and hope they're different, but if not, I won't order anymore. Waste of money.

All Duplicates

My kids received the Beaker Creatures Lab for Christmas. They loved it, so I ordered two more packs of the reactors pods. The two packs contained the exact same pods. What a disappointment for my kids and what a waste of money for me.

Lots of fun, but duplicate creatures galore!

I normally love these guys and my son has so much fun with them. However, we bought three 6 packs of series one and they were literally all duplicates (see photo). I get that there will be duplicates here and there, but I didn't expect them to be all in the same pack. The company should really make sure this doesn't happen. It will make me think twice about buying them again. The same thing also happened to my brother and niece with all the duplicates.

Duplicate/Triplicate items

The pods themselves all worked fine, but out of the 6 pods, we got 3 of the same creature.

My son loves them, but I am not really mpressed

I expected the Beaker Creatures to be up to the same quality as the rest of the products but I was wrong. The paint/sealant on the creatures rubbed off very quickly. One of the pods didn't even fizz. On the other hand, my son loves them and plays with them daily.

Bath bombs + vending machine surprise balls = fun creatures

My daughter is crazy for those little dolls which has a doll with some accessories inside a ball. I biggest detractor for me in those dolls is, there is no learning value and off course the high price. So I tried these instead since it has a similar surprise unpacking element but with some educational value as well. You get a surprise fizz ball , a fillable stat sheet and an informational pamplet inside one pack. I opted for the 6-pack which cost me just over $4 each - half the price of the dolls. The balls are shrink wrapped, this might need some rethinking as it was difficult for my child- and for me to unwrap the ball. Once the wrap is off, you just pop the ball into a bowl of water and it start "reacting"(fizzing) rolling and turving and losing all its mass finally giving way to a vending machine type pod after about a minute. Inside the pod is nestled a "creature". Now comes the educational value. The child needs to count the various body parts and fills the fact sheet. My daughter has a lot of fun filling this sheet with me and it was very fulfilling experience. The informational pamplet has a lot of good info and the backside of it looks like is a part of a larger puzzle. The creatures are also colorful and attractive. My daughter has spent a lot of time playing with them , which was unexpected , given they are not interactive. I guess its the variety of colors, characters and different kind of body parts that got her hooked on these. We got lucky with a limited edition character and we also had no repeat characters. All in all, I prefer these over the dolls as it also has a bit of an educational and "research" side to it.

Too pricey for what it's worth

These were smaller than I thought they would be - especially for the price. They are a cheap small toy after the egg fizzles in 2 minutes or less.

Collectable mystery creatures

Kiddos will enjoy the mystery of dropping the pods into water and watching them transform to reveal one of the creatures pictured on the box. The pods feel like a slightly smoother bath bomb. The pod color identifies the classification of creature that you will reveal. I could picture children wanting to collect them to acquire the whole series especially, since some can be gold in color. 4 of our 6 pods were identical (2 sets of 2 identical) upon reveal, which is always possible with random selection. Our pods were labeled series 1 on the box, not sure if you have the choice of series you receive though. Unless you intend to discuss states of matter, physical changes and the like, the only academic component comes in the form of the 4 question multiple choice quiz (answers are printed upside down really tiny across the bottom) that are scientific in nature. My 8 year old enjoyed them. I think that they are competitively priced with other small collectibles. I would advise to use a clear bowl to transform them, so that the stages/changes are easily visible. Each little creatures comes sealed in a plastic container so they are dry and undamaged during the transformation. This will entertain and keep kiddos busy for a little while, and it doesn't require adult supervision ( unless your child is smaller and likes to eat things).
