Speech Therapy POV
Where is Howie's Owie? is a fun activity that will target expressive and receptive language targets. The item comes with a two sided easel stand. One side is magnetic and has Howie on the beach, the other side has lines drawn for labeling Howie! The easel comes with colorful magnetic bandages, enough to give Howie 20 Owies! There are many learning targets that Howie lends himself to in the speech room. My preschool student and I worked on vocabulary and following 1 and 2 step directions with temporal and conditional directions. I even snuck in some concepts such as 'top, middle, bottom, under, next to, between, corner.' We developed simple sentences for /k/ carryover and said 'Doctor fix ___' for each band aid we added to poor Howie! We answered WH questions while we added band aids too ( ie: "Where is the purple band aid?") Lastly we targeted some basic inferencing skills. The second time we applied Howie's band aids, I gave clues and scenarios and the child had to decide where the band aid should go. For example, 'Howie tried to catch a a bumble bee in his hands! Ouch! Where is Howie's Owie?' During a literacy group we used Howie at circle time to work on Phonological Awareness skills. Each student added a band aid to a body part. Then they name that body part, a word that rhymed with it, the initial and final sound in their body part, and how many syllables that word contained. I can't wait to use Howie in our Health and 5 Senses week next year during preschool! Speech Room News was provided a copy of this product for review. No other compensation was provided.

Great Educational Fun for Little Ones
Where is Howie's Owie? is a super cute learning tool for helping your little ones develop body awareness, vocabulary, and even reinforcing colors. It's a table-top easel board with the picture of a little boy in swimming trunks on both sides. One side is magnetic and both sides are able to be written on with dry erase markers and wiped off (markers not included). The back of the board even has lines on it for labeling the body parts. We're talking simple body parts like elbows and knees, eyes, ears, and all those general parts that preschoolers need to know. Our favorite part of the Where is Howie's Owie? board are the 20 magnetic bandages! They are so cute, durable (made from nice thick magnet sheet), are in a variety of bright cold colors, and come in two sizes - a small square, and normal bandage shape. My three year old really loves his Where is Howie's Owie? board. It's been great fun reinforcing body awareness, and even learning a few new body parts that he was a bit confused on. He kept calling elbows 'knees', but thanks to Howie, he now confidently names all the body parts well. Since he knew most of the main parts, we've tried to focus on things like the chin, neck, cheeks, and lips, and the Where is Howie's Owie? board makes it super easy. Plus, we play fun games like `guess which body part I'm thinking of', and incorporate colors as well by asking him to do things like `place the green bandage on Howie's belly button.' The board also includes an activity guide for parents with several great ideas for using the board with your child(ren). The Where is Howie's Owie? board folds flat to store which is great for space saving! *I received this product free of charge for the purpose of this review.*

A Fun Way To Learn Body Parts
When I received the 'Where Is Howie's Owie?' I knew right away that my kids would have so much fun playing with this and also learn at the same time. Since my little girl knows all of her body parts except a few like forearm or shin I knew this would be good for her. My little boy also knows all of his main body parts except when it comes to his elbows, wrists or ankles. I could tell from the start that this would really help him achieve the next level in learning body parts. The set up of 'Where Is Howie's Owie?' was very easy. All I had to do was pop open the stand and set it on the floor, then pop out the magnet bandages. Also, required is a dry erase marker and cloth which aren't included but are common enough to not be an annoyance. The image of Howie is very kid friendly for young kids. I love how on one side the board is magnetic so the magnetic bandages stick to the board with ease. They do connect very well, the bandages don't slide down, which I have seen with other magnetic toys. On this side you can ask your kids different questions like "Howie, got hurt on his chin. Where is his chin at?" You can also tell them to use a certain color bandage, this allows them to practice their colors as well. On the other side it is not magnetic but, you can use a dry erase marker on it. There are lines down both sides that you can write on and put a line to the spot you are talking about. This side is really nice to help teach the body parts without playing a game. I found this side to be very helpful with my eight year old. I would ask here where the shoulder was and have her write it on a line and draw a line to it. There are several different ways you can have your kids interact with 'Where Is Howie's Owie?'. I am sure your family will find this product as much fun as our family did.
