Beautiful but gold leaf coming off

This goes perfectly in our bathroom. Just out of the box the gold leaf was coming off in 2 places leaving the black showing. That still goes with our bathroom. I am going to spray paint it with a clear coat today in order to save the rest of the color. For us it’s worth it because it matches so well. But for regular use the color is going to come off without intervention.
