Now a major motion picture! Stephen King's #1 New York Times bestseller is a wild, powerful, disturbing (The Washington Post Book World) classic about evil that exists far beyond the grave—among King's most iconic and frightening novels. When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow's tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed's beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing. . . as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there—one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louis is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better.

Desperate Man Takes Desperate Action

The death and resurrection of the family cat leads to other deaths in the story of the supernatural. Dr. Louis Creed and his family move into a new home, which is next to a road busy with semi truck traffic. First his daughter's cat is run over and then his toddler son. Once Louis is shown a way to bring back the cat, how can he resist resurrecting his son? Even though he realizes it really wasn't the cat the came back.

It might be Stephen King’s scariest book!

Pet Sematary was the first book I had ever read by Stephen King, and it definitely turned me into a huge fan! Do I think it’s the scariest book he’s ever written? Let me put it this way: For me, it’s a tie between Pet Sematary and The Shining when it comes to which of his books I think are the scariest! There are others that I think are also among his scariest. Misery and Cujo both kept me on the edge of my seat. I also think The Dark Half is pretty terrifying. But, for me, The Shining and Pet Sematary win every time! Each time someone asks me which book I think is the scariest Stephen King, these two books always come to mind. I can never decide which of the two is the scariest! Any horror fan who has read—and liked—both books knows why: They are BOTH extremely scary! While Pet Sematary builds to a terrifying climax while providing some creepy, nightmarish moments throughout, The Shining delivers a spooky, nail-biting plot with nearly every chapter! And, speaking of plots, both books have utterly compelling premises. Pet Sematary deals with grief over the loss of a loved one by depicting a horrible tragedy that could happen to anyone, but, at the same time, it’s a tragedy that would be especially heartbreaking for any parent. This, and a good imagination, help the story to develop into a supernatural tale of terror that becomes particularly horrifying in the end. I would recommend Pet Sematary to any horror fans, but I must also warn any readers who have experienced a recent tragedy to wait for a while before reading it; this book deals with the issue of the death of a loved one in a sensitive, emotional way. Or, to me, it seems to. Anyway, those who are reading this are either wondering whether I thought it was a good book, or if it’s something I would recommend as a great read. Yes! I think it’s a terrific book, especially as a horror novel! And I think it would make a great choice for horror fans, especially those who love Stephen King!
