The Girls in the Stilt House by Kelly Mustian
Product details
Web ID: 16778543Murder and survival in the 1920s deep South
It's an exciting read, and you feel drawn into the plight of both main characters. It's especially intriguing if you enjoy reading books set in the rural South. Hopefully, it will make it to the big screen.

Slow / Nothing memorable
I was really hoping to love this book but I just didn't. I forced myself to finish it but it was very bleh.. The story had so much potential but this book did not use any of its potential. It was very slow and drug on. The author tried to shove so much information in that there was not much room for the actual story. I have lived in the South my entire life and love Southern fiction but this book was not it.

I had only planned to read for about an hour this afternoon but I got so caught up in it that I had to finish it. It is a very good book ~ I recommend it ~ well worth your time.

Great descriptions of Mississippi
I bought this as a book club read. I loved the variety of scenery, characters, occupations and social status within Mississippi during the early 1900s.

An Unlikely Friendship in the Murky Swamps
Ada is the daughter of a dirt poor trapper living on the edge of Mississippi swamp. Her father is abusive and cruel and even more so when she comes back home pregnant and alone. Matilda is a sharecropper's daughter living in a shack with nothing they can call their own. A violent act brings these two young women together and they form a close friendship despite the different color of their skin and racial tension of the 1920's South. They help each other despite the danger and violence all around them. Ada has dreams of being a seamstress and Matilda just wants to head North where she can be free of the secrets. Historical fiction once again featuring tough women in tough times putting up with the men who have total control over their lives.
