5 years agoSharp Style, BLADE DULL, I GOT NO SYNERGY!
Brand new out of the package this knife would not cut a tomato, a piece of paper, or my finger either. Bad quality control on the final sharpening before Packaging! The Chinese robots must have gone home early. No human would ever consider this knife Sharp if it was inspected. Secondly the grantons are only on the left side of the blade causing uneven resistance. I'm not sure if this was an Omission by Design or the same robot that forgot to sharpen the knife also forgot to put the grantons on both sides? These two shortcomings made a very bad first impression. America's Test Kitchen said in their testing of santoku knives that the grantons made little difference in knives ability to release food from the surface of the blade, but having them only on one side does effect the knifes ability to stay on course when slicing rapidly in succession. If this isn't a defect it makes no sense unless the blade is too thin to accommodate them on both sides, in which case leave them off completely! J A Henckles please address these shortcomings that have affected my customer satisfaction of an otherwise nicely balanced, comfortable with good handle affordance, affordably priced and stylishly designed knife. Six passes through my XV diamond sharpener and six honing/stroping passes put a razor sharp dual 15°edge on its blade for the first time and it now can cut tomatoes, onions and finely mince garlic and restored the way it was supposed to deliver full SYNERGY during my first usage of this brand new just opened product.

6 years agogreat prep santoku
This santoku is the perfect size for meal prep. It is between the sizes of a paring knife and chefs knife. The forged steel blade is very sharp and easy to maintain. The slim blade profile gives nice thin accurate slices and cuts. The handle is well shaped and very comfortable to hold.

6 years agoNot great
They aren’t the sharpest but ok for an extra knife. The worst is now easily they scratch if you use anything but a sponge or cloth to clean it. The first one ordered arrived scratched I guess that was a clue

6 years agoStill trying to open the packaging
It's been 3 days of off and on attempts to open the plastic packaging. I know it's a sharp knife because it didn't hurt when I sliced my finger on it just now while trying to finish removing the most secure packaging I've ever encountered in my life. Hurts like heck now, but the slicing itself was fast and painless. If I do get to use it on something besides myself, I'll update the review. In the meantime, I need to heal for a few days before my next attempt.

6 years agoThe santoku is one of my most used knives in the kitchen. I love the wide blade profile and the hollow edges keep food from sticking to the knife. The German steel is sharp and very durable. I use this as much as a chef knife.

6 years agoThis Forged Synergy 5 inch follow edge santoku knife is great for small jobs in the kitchen- dicing, chopping, etc. The hollow edge repels food from sticking to the blade. This handle is very comfortable and although it is a value line knife, the blade is still very sharp.

Comfortable handle, sharp as surgical steel, light
This knife came surgically sharp right out of the packaging. The handle is absolutely perfect for my larger sized hands, giving me a perfect, comfortable grip. This is not a heavy knife, which surprised me, but i am comparing it to a slightly larger Zwilling JA Henckel's Four Star Santoku that I own. With that said, I have been using this Synergy Santoku more often then the Zwilling, and the Synergy is in my hands daily now.
