Lovely set for the most part

This is an attractive set, looks great on my counter, the included holder and spoon rest are great and I'm enjoying using so far. I switched to wooden utensils for non-toxicity. Note that these utensils have a clear lacquer on them (Zulay says non-toxic food grade; hope that's 100% true) which makes them smooth, water resistant and easy to clean. My one star off is for functionality. The spoons, the ladle and pasta server are very flat (the downsides of mass produced wooden sets in general, I suppose), which makes them less handy for scooping things up. The ladle is really shallow and small, so you can use it for pouring sauce or gravy over something but not for things like soup ( for reference, it took 10 ladles to fill a mug with water; I tried!). The pasta server is also very flat and so you may also want to buy one that's deeper (I did) so your pasta doesn't just slip right off. I would have wanted the skimmer to be maybe 0.5 inch bigger. It's also quite small and I think it might barely be big enough for my falafels. I ended up separately buying Zulay's stainless steel pasta server, skimmer and soup ladle. So not all the pieces in the set will fully suit your needs. Also, the tip of the large spoon got scuffed on maybe the second use from scraping it (fairly gently) at the bottom of a stainless steel saucepan to get out the dregs of very soft (almost liquid) oatmeal. I was kind of surprised. So I hope the lacquer truly is safe. It does make me wonder about longevity but for now I still like an recommend.
